Abstract: Soft, durable and bulky tissue products comprising non-wood fibers and more particularly high yield hesperaloe pulp fibers are disclosed. The tissue products preferably comprise at least about 5 percent, by weight of the product, high yield hesperaloe pulp fiber and have relatively modest tensile strengths, such as a geometric mean tensile (GMT) greater than about 1,000 g/3″, and improved durability and cross-machine direction (CD) properties, such as a CD Stretch greater than about 10 percent. Additionally, at the foregoing tensile strengths the products are not overly stiff. For example, the tissue products may have a Stiffness Index less than about 10.0.

Abstract: Methods of increasing formability of a palm sheath material, methods of producing a palm sheath-based product, and palm sheath foodware produced thereby. The formability of a palm sheath material is increased by treating the palm sheath material with a fluid substance that weakens bonds between cellulose fibers of the palm sheath material by partially eliminating lignin and hemicellulose of the palm sheath material. The treated palm sheath material can be used to form various products, such as foodware products by deforming the treated palm sheath material into a shape. Advantageously, the treated palm sheath material can typically be deformed by stretching or punching using dies to a height to diameter aspect ratio of greater than 0.2 and/or to a limit strain of the palm sheath material greater than 0.38.

Abstract: The invention relates to a fibrous mat facer for preparing a gypsum board, to a gypsum board comprising said mat facer and to a system comprising said gypsum board. The fibrous mat comprises at least one ply of a non-woven fabric, and a binder composition, wherein the binder composition represents from 10 to 40 wt % of the total weight of the mat. The binder composition comprises a copolymer comprising a co-monomer unit of a vinyl ester of an alpha branched aliphatic monocarboxylic acid, said copolymer being present in an amount from 25 to 100 wt % of the binder composition weight.

Abstract: The present invention provides a method for non-catalytic delignification of biomass, without externally added catalyst, with a mixed solvent of oxygenated organic solvent and water in the presence of an oxidant, at moderate temperature and pressure. Further, the separation of delignified cellulose from liquid mixture is carried out at around equivalent process conditions. Low modified kappa number delignified cellulose is obtained after separation of a liquid mixture containing a mixed solvent, hemicelluloses, lignin and traces of miscellaneous compounds. Furthermore, the method has lower chemical consumption in the downstream process, ease of operation and robustness.
