摘要:
Methods and apparatuses for producing a zoned and/or layered substrate are described. A method can include providing a first supply of fibers, providing a second supply of fibers, and providing a headbox. The headbox can include a machine direction, a cross-direction, and a first cross-directional divider that separates a first zone of the headbox from a second zone of the headbox in a cross-directional manner. The method can further include transferring the first supply of fibers and the second supply of fibers to the headbox. The method can also include transferring the first supply of fibers and the second supply of fibers through the headbox to provide the substrate.

A coform nonwoven web that contains a composite matrix formed from a combination of synthetic fibers and an absorbent material is provided. A plurality of thermally expandable beads are also contained within the composite matrix. By selectively controlling various aspects of the thermal activation of the beads, as well as the particular manner in which the beads are incorporated within the nonwoven web, the present inventors have discovered that the resulting coform web can achieve an increased bulk that remains relatively stable even in a wet condition. Thus, the resulting coform web can be readily employed in a wet wipe without losing its bulk and overall texture.

The apparatus (1) for making a fibrous-containing and/or particle-containing nonwoven (NW) comprises a spinning unit (10) with a spinning head (104), a forming surface (11a) that is movable in a conveying direction (MD), and a channel (13) positioned between the spinning head (104) and the movable forming surface (11a), and formed between at least two transverse walls (14a; 14b), that extend transverse to the conveying direction (MD) and that are in the vicinity of the movable forming surface (11a), or that are in frictional contact with the movable forming surface (11a). The spinning unit (10) is adapted for spinning a stream of polymeric filaments or fibres (F) passing through said channel (13) and deposited onto said forming surface (11a). The apparatus further comprises supplying means (15) adapted for blowing at least one stream of cooling gas (C) and fibrous material and/or particles inside said channel (13) in the vicinity of the spinning head (104) and towards the stream of hot polymeric filaments or fibres (F) inside said channel (13), said at least one stream of cooling gas (C) enabling simultaneously to cool the stream of hot fibres or filaments (F) produced by the spinning unit (10) and to transport and blow the fibrous material (M) and/or particles inside said channel (13) and into said stream of hot polymeric filaments or fibres (F).

The present invention relates to a medical nonwoven fabric comprising gelable cellulose derivative short-cut fibers as prepared by the paper making process, a preparation method thereof, and an adhesion prevention barrier using the same. The present invention provides a single phase of medical nonwoven fabric comprising gelable cellulose derivative short-cut fibers, to induce capillary action of micropores formed between the fibers and thereby control the gelation time, and provides a composite nonwoven fabric formed by laminating a nonwoven fabric layer comprising a different kind of biodegradable polymer material not susceptible to gelation on the single-phase of medical nonwoven fabric comprising gelable cellulose derivative short-cut fibers, thereby improving dimensional stability and convenience of surgical procedure. The present invention further provides a dyed medical nonwoven fabric to improve visibility, allowing easiness of recognizing the placement or location of the medical nonwoven fabric. Further, the single-phase nonwoven fabric or the composite nonwoven fabric, which makes it possible to efficiently control the gelation time by way of capillary action of the micropores formed between the fiber in the nonwoven fabric, can also be used as an adhesion prevention barrier with improved convenience of surgical procedure and post-surgical adhesion, in contrast to the conventional knit or film type adhesion prevention barrier.

Nonwoven fibrous webs including a multiplicity of discrete fibers, a population of sub-micrometer fibers having a population median diameter less than one micrometer adjoining the discrete fibers, and a multiplicity of chemically active particulates secured to the nonwoven fibrous web. In some embodiments, more than 0% and less than 10% wt. of the nonwoven fibrous web is made of discrete fibers that are thermoplastic polymeric fibers, and which optionally at least partially melt and coalesce to secure the discrete polymeric fibers to each other. In certain embodiments, at least some of the particulates are bonded to the thermoplastic polymeric fibers. In other embodiments, at least some of the particulates are secured within interstices of the fibrous web, without substantial bonding to the discrete fibers. Methods of making and using such nonwoven fibrous webs are also described.
