    Abstract: An apparatus includes: a defibrating unit that defibrates a material to turn it into fibers; a fiber piling-up unit that piles up the fibers to form a second web; a pressing portion that presses the second web to turn it into a sheet; and a humidifying mechanism that supplies humidified air to the fiber piling-up unit. The fiber piling-up unit includes a rotating portion that stirs the fibers supplied from the defibrating unit, a case in which the rotating portion is housed, and a mesh belt that is provided under the case and transports the second web in a transportation direction. The second web is formed on the mesh belt by piling up the fibers on the mesh belt. The humidifying mechanism includes an upstream-side nozzle that is provided upstream of the fiber piling-up unit in the transportation direction and supplies the humidified air to the fiber piling-up unit.

    Abstract: Method and apparatus for removing liquid from a gas/liquid flow for use in pulp washers, deinking cells, and the like are disclosed. A gas/liquid separator includes a separation chamber with a flow director providing a gas/liquid flow from a receptacle into the separator in a direction causing impingement of entrained liquid particles on a chamber wall such that liquid particles coalesce into liquid droplets that travel downward by the force of gravity to a separated liquid drain and drained outside the receptacle. A tangential flow inlet provides greater impingement than a cyclonic flow introduced at the lower end of the gas/liquid separator in initially directed upwards. Separated liquid could further be taken outside the pulp washer system for further processing or disposal based on the chemical content of the separated liquid.

In a case where the start control is performed from a state where the fibers are present in the drum unit, the control unit adjusts a thickness of the second web by controlling at least one of a timing at which rotation of the drum unit is initiated, a rotational speed of the drum unit, a timing at which movement of the mesh belt is initiated, and a movement speed of the mesh belt.

    Abstract: A measuring device and method for simultaneously measuring both a slice lip opening and a setback of a headbox slice in a headbox of a papermaking machine are provided. The measuring device is formed by a block having a stop depending from the bottom at the back of the block that is adapted to be placed against the apron lip tip. A height measurement scale is located on a side surface and extends in a direction from the front to the back adapted for measuring the slice opening b.
