Soft, durable and bulky tissue products comprising non-wood fibers and more particularly high yield hesperaloe pulp fibers are disclosed. The tissue products preferably comprise at least about 5 percent, by weight of the product, high yield hesperaloe pulp fiber and have relatively modest tensile strengths, such as a geometric mean tensile (GMT) greater than about 1,000 g/3″, and improved durability and cross-machine direction (CD) properties, such as a CD Stretch greater than about 10 percent. Additionally, at the foregoing tensile strengths the products are not overly stiff. For example, the tissue products may have a Stiffness Index less than about 10.0.

A 3D shaped product (20) is formed by hot pressing of an air-laid blank (10) comprising natural fibers at a concentration of at least 70% by weight of the air-laid blank and a thermoplastic polymer binder at a concentration selected within an interval of from 2.5 up to 30% by weight of the air-laid blank. The 3D shaped product (20) is recyclable in a repulping process. At least a part of the thermoplastic polymer binder is water soluble at a repulping temperature of the repulping process. The 3D shaped product (20) are environmentally friendly alternatives to plastic 3D shaped products made by foamed polymers and can be recycled in existing recycling schemes.

A fibrous structure is disclosed. The fibrous structure exhibits a plurality of discrete knuckles arranged in a pattern of repeat units. The repeat units can include a plurality of rows arranged orthogonally in an X-Y plane, each row having a portion of the discrete knuckles, and each discrete knuckle separated from adjacent discrete knuckles in a row by a distance. Each of the discrete knuckles within the repeat unit can have substantially the same shape and size; and wherein the distance between at least two adjacent discrete knuckles in each row are non-uniform such that the repeat unit exhibits varying pillow width distances along the rows in both the X and Y axes.

A method of making a multi-ply absorbent product having a wet scrubbing resistance greater than 120 revolutions and a basis weight of between 30 and 50 grams per square meter. A heated adhesive is applied between two single plies/webs, the multiple plies are embossed according to particular parameters, and the embossed webs are compressed with a marrying roll. The adhesive is heated to a temperature of between approximately 32° C. to 66° C. for application between the multiple plies. For each ply, the embossed area generally occupies between approximately 5 to 15% of the total surface area of a surface of the ply, the depth of embossment of the surface is generally between approximately 0.28 and 0.43 centimeters deep, and the embossment of the surface is generally between approximately 0.04 to 0.08 square centimeters in size.

An air-laid web is combined with a wet-laid web prior to drying to form a layered tissue sheet. The resulting sheet has a unique combination of properties, which can include greater bulk and fuzziness on the air-laid side and greater strength and more smoothness on the wet-laid side.

A liquid absorbing pad, in particular for use in hygiene articles and sanitary products, such as diapers, bed pads, sanitary napkins, pads for incontinence, panty shields, nursing pads or the like, is produced in a dry and direct process on the basis of wet-strength and/or coated paper waste, especially originating from the production of food packages, milk carton packages, deep-freeze packages, disposable tableware and the like. The waste is cut and defibrated, and during the defibration or just before it a maximum of 25% by volume, based on the volume of the paper waste, of a mixture of water and a surfactant is added to reestablish the absorption capacity of the fibres. Starting materials otherwise difficult to process can thus be used in a dry and direct process.

Method of producing fiberboard products according to the so-called dry method from lignocellulosic fiber material in which the fiber material discharged from a defibrating apparatus in an environment of steam is propelled in a stream of heated air to remove substantially all moisture therefrom. The thus dried fibers are deposited on an underlying moving perforated screen to form a mat in which the fibers are oriented at random while propellant air is evacuated therefrom. The thus formed mat is wetted by adding water thereto while it is being advanced by the screen into a hot press where the wetted fibers are compressed and bonded in their random orientation, with consequent removal of water. The amount of water added in the wetting step is proportioned to be effective in itself to bond the fibers without use of extraneous bonding or adhesive substance.

Strong, low basis weight, spontaneously dispersible sheets of modified cellulosic fibers. The sheets are prepared from modified cellulosic fibers such as cross-linked carboxymethyl cellulose or essentially acidic sodium carboxymethyl cellulose. Mixtures of modified fibers with unmodified fibers are also disclosed. The process of preparing the sheets comprises the steps of airlaying the fibers to form an airfelt, increasing the moisture content of the airfelt, and compacting the moisturized airfelt.

Provided is technology for effectively removing fiber from a mesh belt. A second web former for conveying a second web containing fiber deposited on a mesh belt 72 having multiple holes 72a has a brush roller 710 with numerous bristles 712 protruding from the surface and disposed in contact with the mesh belt 72. The sectional area of the bristles 712 of the brush roller 710 is smaller than the open area of the holes 72a in the mesh belt 72 so that the distal ends of the bristles 712 can enter the holes 72a.
