Abstract:
There is described a substrate (S) for security documents, such as banknotes, comprising one or more paper layers (11, 12) and a polymer layer (20) which is made to adhere to a side of at least one of the paper layers (11, 12), which polymer layer (20) is substantially transparent in at least one region of the substrate (S) which is not covered by the paper layer or layers (11, 12) so as to form a substantially transparent window (W) in the substrate (S) which is formed and closed by the polymer layer (20). The polymer layer (20) exhibits in the region of the window (W) a thickness (T) which is greater than a thickness (t) of the polymer layer (20) outside of the region of the window (W). The thickness (T) of the polymer layer (20) in the region of the window (W) is substantially equal to the added thickness of the paper layer or layers (11, 12) and of the polymer layer (20) outside of the region of the (W) so that the substrate (S) exhibits a substantially uniform and constant thickness (T). The substrate (S) further comprises a micro-optical structure (30), in particular a lens structure, which is disposed in the region of the window (W) on at least one side of the polymer layer (20).
Abstract:
There is provided a dimensionally stable laminated paperboard material having a tear-resistant polymer film core. The tear-resistant paperboard laminate is a multi-layer paperboard laminate with an integral polymer core having a tear resistance a thickness of at least 1 mil and a tear resistance of at least 350 grams of force in machine direction and 400 grams of force in cross direction, as measured by the Elmendorf tear propagation test. Two paperboard substrates are bonded on respective opposite sides of the polymer core, to provide printability, facilitate adherence and prevent frictional resistance. The multi-layer paperboard-polymer-paperboard laminate is particularly useful for child-resistant, senior-friendly and pilfer-proof packaging and may be printed on, hot-stamped, embossed, die-cut and glued using conventional printing and converting techniques. An adhesive laminating process and an extrusion laminating process for manufacturing the laminate are also disclosed.
Abstract:
An adhesive composition that provides improved structural integrity and insulative properties when applied to a substrate is provided. The adhesive composition includes an emulsion-based polymer, a plurality of microspheres; and optionally, water and plasticizer.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a sheet having a recto face and a verso face together with at least one watermark or pseudo-watermark and such that at least part of said watermark or pseudo-watermark is observable in transmitted light from only one of the faces of said sheet.
Abstract:
A papermaking process, and a paper product made from the process, wherein a biodegradable plastic is used with papermaking material. The biodegradeable plastic may be provided as a substrate, with the papermaking material being applied to the substrate. The papermaking material may include recycled paper fibers and/or agricultural crop material. Recycled wood fibers may be applied in a fibrous state or agricultural plant material may be powdered and applied to the substrate. The surface material is affixed to the substrate by the application of heat and pressure or by the use of vegetable slime juice as an adhesive.
Abstract:
A high pressure laminate is made of several layers of paper, including from bottom to top core sheets, a decor sheet and an overlay sheet. The core sheets are either composed of cellulose fibers or composed of 30 to 90 weight percent cellulose acetate fibers and 70 to 10 weight percent cellulose fibers. The core sheets are respectively coated with either a lamination polymer or a plasticizer. The decor sheet is composed of a mixture and a conventional amount of paper making dye. The mixture comprises 30 to about 90 weight percent cellulose acetate fibers, 10 to 70 weight percent cellulose fibers and 0 to 20 weight percent fillers. The decor sheet is coated with a plasticizer. The overlay sheet is composed of cellulose fibers and is coated with a lamination polymer. Upon application of heat and pressure to the several layers a laminate is formed having thermoplastic properties, improved postformability and a significant reduction in the release of volatile organics during formation.
Abstract:
A compostable paperboard container and package for liquids which is coated with a material capable of degrading to carbon dioxide, water and biomass under composting conditions.
Abstract:
A heat-adhesive paper sheet suitable for use as fusuma paper and shoji paper in a Japanese style house, wallpaper, ceiling paper, liner for paintings and calligraphic works, and liner for plywood, and which is adhered to the object with heat by ironing. The heat-adhesive paper sheet is composed of a paper sheet material having a projection-depression pattern formed on the surface thereof by creping or embossing or the like and a layer of a thermoplastic thermal shrinking pressure-sensitive adhesive provided on one surface of the paper sheet material. Even though the surface of the object to which the paper sheet is stuck is somewhat rough and uneven, the heat-sensitive adhesive layer may easily be fused so that the paper sheet may be well applied to the object under light pressure without forming wrinkles on the applied sheet. Steam ironing, which has heretofore been unacceptable, is applicable to this paper sheet for sticking it to an object.
Abstract:
An insulating polyolefin laminate paper and a method for producing such a paper in which first and second fiber paper layers are laminated to a polyolefin film layer. The fiber paper layers have an impermeability of 20 to 4000 Gurley-seconds. At least one of the fiber paper layers is mechanically deformed in such a manner that irregularities are produced having a depth of 2 to 50% of the thickness of the fiber paper layer. The mechanical deformation is accomplished prior to lamination. Before lamination, the water content of the fiber paper layers is controlled to be no more than 4%. Preferably, the thickness of the fiber paper layers is at least 30 microns. Furthermore, an electric power supply cable includes an insulating polyolefin laminate paper as an insulating layer.
