Abstract: A biodegradable filter for the removal of various pollutants, contaminants, or harmful substances from the surrounding air, and a method of fabrication. The filter includes 30% by weight of cellulose nanofibers, 30% by weight of activated carbon, and 20% by weight of polyethylene glycol. The cellulose nanofibers and activated carbon are isolated from date palm biomass, making the filter cost-effective and environmentally friendly.

Abstract: Grafted, crosslinked cellulosic materials include cellulose fibers and polymer chains composed of at least one monoethylenically unsaturated acid group-containing monomer (such as acrylic acid) grafted thereto, in which one or more of said cellulose fibers and said polymer chains are crosslinked (such as by intra-fiber chain-to-chain crosslinks). Some of such materials are characterized by a wet bulk of about 10.0-17.0 cm3/g, an IPRP value of about 1000 to 7700 cm2/MPa·sec, and/or a MAP value of about 7.0 to 38 cm H2O. Methods for producing such materials may include grafting polymer chains from a cellulosic substrate, followed by treating the grafted material with a crosslinking agent adapted to effect crosslinking of one or more of the cellulosic substrate or the polymer chains. Example crosslinking mechanisms include esterfication reactions, ionic reactions, and radical reactions, and example crosslinking agents include pentaerythritol, homopolymers of the graft species monomer, and hyperbranched polymers.

Abstract: An absorbent composite foam is provided having a density below 0.04 g/cc and low wet collapse comprising (i) between about 5 to about 40% by wt. fluid resistant fibers; (ii) between about 30 to about 80% by wt. cellulosic fibers; (iii) between about 5 to about 35% by wt. binder; and (iv) a foaming surfactant. The combination of ultra-low density and wet stability is achieved, despite a high proportion of cellulosic fibers, by having both hydrogen bonding between cellulosic fibers as well as inter-fiber bonds formed by the binder.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for manufacturing bath tissue paper utilizing at least one through-air dryer in which a softening agent is applied to a paper web before the paper web is sent through at least one through-air dryer. A slurry is deposited between two forming wires. Then, at a first web transfer device, the outer forming wire is removed from the paper web, with the paper web remaining on the inner forming wire. At a second web transfer device, the paper web is separated from the inner forming wire and is pulled onto a TAD fabric by use of suction. Then a softening agent is applied to the paper web before the paper web is sent through at least one through-air dryer.
