摘要: A pressure sensitive adhesive composition comprises an acrylate ester polymer and up to 45% of an a -methyl styrene polymer. The acrylate ester polymer may be a polymer or copolymer of an acrylate having up to 8 carbon atoms e.g. ethyl, butyl, 2-ethyl hexyl acrylate, with ethylenically unsaturated monomers such as styrene or vinyl ethers. In examples (1) the composition comprises 80 parts acrylate ester resin, 10 parts of a 55% solution in a 2 : 1 mixture of isopropyl acetate and toluene of a vinyl acetate-acrylate copolymer, 75 parts of 50% solution in toluene of a poly-a -methyl styrene: (2) the styrene polymer of (1) was replaced by sucrose acetate isobutyrate: and (4) a lacquer (containing fume silica) comprised a vinylidene chloride /acrylonitrile copolymer in a mixture of methyl isobutyl ketone, tetrahydrofuran, xylene and an acetate.ALSO:A pressure sensitive adhesive tape comprises a backing layer coated with an adhesive mass containing an acrylate ester polymer and up to 45% by weight of an a -methyl styrene polymer. The backing may be transparent and may be cellulose acetate. A primer may be applied to the backing layer, which is strongly adhesive toward the backing and the pressure sensitive adhesive mass. The acrylic ester polymer may be a polymer or copolymer of one or more esters of acrylic acid ester in which acrylic acid ester is at least the major constituent. The acrylic ester may have up to 8 carbon atoms, e.g. ethyl acrylate, butyl acrylate, 2-ethyl hexyl acrylate. The polymer may also contain minor amounts of ethylenically unsaturated monomers such as styrene or vinyl ethers. The acrylate ester polymer and methyl styrene polymer may be dissolved in a solvent such as toluene, xylene and other aromatic hydrocarbons and aliphatic esters such as ethyl acetate, and applied directly to the backing layer and evaporated. A third constituent which improves the compatability of the polymers in the adhesive mass may be sucrose acetate isobutyrate, or a copolymer of vinyl acetate with an acrylic acid ester. A coating or backing may be applied to the rear surface of the backing film to permit winding the tape in rolls without delamination on unwinding, and must be strongly adhered to the backing but less strongly adhered to the adhesive mass. The latter coating may be a silicone resin which may be applied to the backing in a form which permits curing in place. The silicone resin is composed essentially of repeating units of formula RnSiO(4-n) in which R may be alkyl, aryl, alkenyl or cycloalkyl, and may contain silicon bonded hydroxyl groups of formula Si-O-H, or groups which may be hydrolysed to silicon bonded hydroxyl groups such as Si-H, Si-O-Na, Si-O-K, or Si-O-R, to render it curable. There may also be applied to the rear surface of the backing layer a coating which renders the backing receptive to writing, e.g. a lacquer containing fine aggregate particles in a plastic binder such as silica having a particle size not exceeding 0.1 microns in cellulose-acetate butyrate or a vinylidene chloride polymer which readily adheres to the backing layer and the backsize applied over it.
