Abstract:
This invention relates to a stable dispersion of a synthetic polymer in an oil medium for paints or sealants, which comprises (A) an oil medium capable of dissolving a monomer but incapable of dissolving a polymer formed from the monomer and (B) a polymer component obtained by block- or graft-copolymerization of a part of the oil medium (A) with a monomer copolymerizable with the oil medium (A), the weight ratio of component (A)/component (B) being from 25/75 to 95/5, and the invention also relates to a process for the preparation of such polymer dispersion.

NOVEL WAX COMPOSITIONS CONTAINING ALKYL CYCLOALKYL STRUCTURES IN ADDITION TO ALKYL AROMATIC TELOMER STRUCTURES AND ALSO INCLUDING COPOLYMER TELOMER STRUCTURES. THESE WAX COMPOSITIONS HAVE A MOLECULAR WEIGHT RANGING FROM 500 TO 5000.
Abstract:
Continuous process for the manufacture of copolymers of styrene and Alpha -methylstyrene having a substantially statistical distribution of the monomers by anionic polymerization at low temperatures with thorough mixing of the reactants. The process is characterized in that at least part of the heat of reaction is removed by evaporative cooling and that the monomers are fed to the polymerization zone at different points.
Abstract:
This invention concerns a process for obtaining homogeneous polymer compositions containing at least one olefin polymer and/or one arylvinyl polymer. The process consists of adding, to either or to a mixture of both of these polymers, one or more block copolymers, containing one polyolefin and one polyarylvinyl sequence. These polymer compositions provide homogeneous substances with properties combining those of the individual polymers, and in some mixtures these properties are considerably improved as the result of synergic phenomena.
Abstract:
POLYPROPYLENE MODIFIED BY A RANDOM COPOLYMER OF PROPYLENE AND A SECOND A-OLEFIN IS PREPARED BY A TWOSTAGE PROCESS. IN THE FIRST STAGE, PROPYLENE IS POLYMERIZEDD IN THE PRESENCE OF VIOLET TICL3 AND DIALKYLALUMINUM MONOCHLORICE UNTIL POLYPROPYLENE IN AN AMOUNT OF ABOUT 80 TO 99% BY WEIGHT OF THE TOTAL QUANTITY OF POLYMER TO BE PREPARED HAS BEEN FORMED. A SECOND A-OLEFIN AND A SECOND ACTIVATOR CONSTITUTED BY TRIALKYLALUMINUM IS THEN ADDED TO THE SYSTEM AND IN A SECOND STAGE, THE POLYMERIZATION IS CONTINUED, PROPYLENE BEING POLYMERIZED WITH THE SECOND A-OLEFIN TO FORM A RANDOM COPOLYMER IN AN AMOUNT OF 1 TO 20% BY WEIGHT OF THE TOTAL QUANTITY OF POLYMER TO BE PREPARED.
Abstract:
A method of producing 1,4-cis-polybutadiene and cis-copolymers of butadiene with conjugated cyclic dienes having a number of carbon atoms of 5 to 6 or with vinyl-aromatic compounds which involves homopolymerization or copolymerization of the butadiene with monomers. The process is effected in mass or in a medium of an inert hydrocarbon solvent in the presence of a catalyst consisting of nickel or cobalt halide applied onto an inorganic carrier having electron acceptor characteristics and subjected to thermal activation at a temperature of 150*-350* C and under a vacuum of 10 3 to 10 1 mm Hg.

Abstract:
Block copolymers are provided which retain a high degree of elastomeric properties while at the same time exhibiting a large water absorption capacity are especially useful for water desalinization purposes. These block copolymers comprise chlorosulfonated derivatives of block polymers wherein the terminal polymer blocks are either polyvinyl arene blocks or polyvinyl cycloalkane blocks while the center blocks are hydrogenated conjugated diene blocks or alpha-olefin copolymer blocks of elastomeric character. The end blocks may also comprise alpha-olefin thermoplastic blocks. The chlorosulfonation is carried to an extent sufficient to impart a hydrophilic character to the polymers and is characterized by a sulfur content in the order of 1-10 percent by weight of the block copolymer.
