    摘要: A solid polymer electrolyte composite membrane and method of manufacturing the same. The composite membrane comprises a porous ceramic support having a top surface and a bottom surface. The porous ceramic support may be formed by laser micromachining a ceramic sheet or may be formed by electrochemically oxidizing a sheet of the base metal. A solid polymer electrolyte fills the pores of the ceramic support and preferably also covers the top and bottom surfaces of the support. Application of the solid polymer electrolyte to the porous support may take place by applying a dispersion to the support followed by a drying off of the solvent, by hot extrusion of the solid polymer electrolyte (or by hot extrusion of a precursor of the solid polymer electrolyte followed by in-situ conversion of the precursor to the solid polymer electrolyte) or by in-situ polymerization of a corresponding monomer of the solid polymer electrolyte.

    摘要: The subject invention discloses a process for preparing an N-chloro(or bromo)thio-sulfonamide-modified terpolymer which comprises reacting: (a) a terpolymer of ethylene, an .alpha.-olefin containing from 3-16 carbon atoms, and 5-ethylidene-2-norbornene, with (b) an N-chloro(or bromo)thio-sulfonamide of the formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are selected from the group consisting of alkyl radicals having 1 to 20 carbon atoms, aralkyl radicals having 7 to 20 carbon atoms and aryl and substituted aryl radical having 6 to 10 carbon atoms and wherein R.sup.1 is also selected from radicals having the formula: ##STR2## wherein R.sup.3 and R.sup.4 are individually selected from said alkyl, aralkyl, aryl and substituted aryl radicals and wherein R.sup.3 and R.sup.4 can be joined together to represent radicals selected from ##STR3## where n is an integer of 4 to 7, and ##STR4## and wherein X is selected from chlorine and bromine; in the presence of at least a stoichiometric amount of a hydrohalic acid acceptor.

    摘要: Chlorinated and chlorosulfonated polyethylenes are produced by chlorinating substantially linear olefin polymers having a melt flow ratio, I.sub.10 /I.sub.2, .gtoreq.5.63, a molecular weight distribution, M.sub.w /M.sub.n, defined by the equation: M.sub.w /M.sub.n .ltoreq.(I.sub.10 /I.sub.2)-4.63, a critical shear rate at onset of gross melt fracture of at least 50 percent greater than the critical shear rate at the onset of surface melt fracture of a linear olefin polymer having about the same I.sub.2 and Mw/Mn and at least about 0.01 long chain branches/1000 carbons and a molecular weight distribution from about 1.5 to about 2.5 and their method of manufacture are disclosed. The chlorosulfonated polyethylenes are produced by treating the chlorinated polyethylenes with a mixture of gaseous chlorine and sulfur dioxide.

    摘要: Water insoluble polymers containing hydrophilic pendant moieties ending with a chelating group are disclosed. The polymers are useful in the purification of water polluted by heavy metals such as mercury and lead. The polymers have the general formula P--(--(--O--R).sub.n --(NH--Q).sub.p --F).sub.m where P is a polymeric matrix capable of reacting with a polyalkylene glycol or an alkylene oxide having such a structure and molecular weight as to be insoluble in water; R is either --CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 -- or mixtures of --CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 -- and --CH.sub.2 CH(CH.sub.3)--, with the molar ratio of both units in the mixture being at least 3:1; n is 3 to 50; m is a numeral such that the % by weight of all of the --(--(--O--R--).sub.n (NH--Q).sub.p --F hydrophilic chains is higher than 1% by weight of the total weight of (I); Q is a C.sub.2 -C.sub.6 difunctional aliphatic or aromatic hydrocarbon radical; p is 0 or 1; F is a chelating group selected from dithiocarbamate and methyl-thiourea when p is 1, or from thiol and isothiouronium when p is 0.

The granular, elastomeric chlorosulfonated alkylene-alkyl acrylate copolymers can be used as extrudates about wires and cables and can be formed into film material characterized by excellent optical properties.
