Abstract: The present invention provides a method of transmitting broadcast signals. The method includes, formatting input streams into Data Pipe, DP, data; Low-Density Parity-Check, LDPC, encoding the DP data according to a code rate; bit interleaving the LDPC encoded DP data; mapping the bit interleaved DP data onto constellations according to one of QAM (Quadrature Amplitude Modulation), NUQ (Non-Uniform QAM) or NUC (Non-Uniform Constellation); Multi-Input Multi-Output, MIMO, encoding the mapped DP data by using a MIMO encoding matrix having a MIMO encoding parameter; building at least one signal frame by mapping the MIMO encoded DP data; and modulating data in the built signal frame by an Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing, OFDM, method and transmitting the broadcast signals having the modulated data.

Abstract: In one embodiment, physical layer error signatures of a communications link are determined by ascertaining characteristics of erred and correct modulation symbols received by a physical receiver of a communications device, such as, but not limited to, by a receiver of a packet switching device in a communications network normally used to receive data traffic. In one embodiment, a physical receiver of a physical communications device receives a particular modulation symbol and determines whether the received particular modulation symbol is an expected modulation symbol in a predetermined sequence of modulation symbols. One or more storage devices are maintained with one or more error signature measurements based on determining whether the particular modulation symbol is the expected modulation symbol in the predetermined sequence of modulation symbols, with the error signature measurements including performing a comparison to a threshold value or a current maximum value.

Abstract: In a particular aspect, an apparatus includes a first network interface. The first network interface is configured to receive a packet via a packet-switched network. The packet may include a primary coding of a first audio frame and a redundant coding of a second audio frame. The apparatus further includes a processor. The processor is configured to generate a modified packet that includes one or more bits that indicate signaling information or packet decoding information. The signaling information or packet decoding information may correspond to decoding of at least one of the primary coding or the redundant coding. The apparatus further includes a second network interface configured to transmit the modified packet via a circuit-switched network.

Abstract: Communication apparatus includes a PHY interface, which is configured to receive over a communication link and to decode a sequence of symbols arranged in a series of data blocks. The PHY interface includes an error correction circuit, which when actuated, corrects errors in decoded data symbols using FEC symbols in the data blocks. The decoded data include data packets containing respective error detection codes. A memory buffers the data blocks received by the PHY interface. A data link layer interface receives the data packets from the PHY interface, checks the data packets using respective error detection codes, and upon detecting an error in a given data packet, signals the PHY interface to read from the memory at least one buffered data block that contains the given data packet while actuating the error correction circuit to correct the error using the FEC symbols in the at least one buffered data block.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for staggercasting are described including encoding and compressing a first data sequence, packetizing the compressed encoded data sequence to form a data packet, performing forward error correction (FEC) encoding on the data packet in order to generate a second data sequence related to the first data sequence, appending FEC control information as padding to the end of payload data of the data packet, packetizing the second data sequence to form a packet, multicasting the data packet to a first multicast group, multicasting the packet formed using the second data sequence delayed by an offset time to a second multicast group.
