Abstract: A device capable of operating in a wireless communication environment. The device may be configured to determine a plurality of control signaling bits. The device may determine a plurality of cyclic redundancy check (CRC) bits based on the plurality of control signaling bits. The device may apply a channel coding scheme to the plurality of control signaling bits and the plurality of CRC bits. The plurality of CRC bits may be distributed among the plurality of control signaling bits prior to applying the channel coding scheme. The device may transmit the channel coded plurality of control signaling bits and CRC bits.

Abstract: Methods and systems for uneven segmentation of data packets to reduce retransmission penalty accumulated as a result of having to retransmit one or more of the last segments. The method includes segmenting a data packet into segments of different sizes, with generally larger segments in the first half and smaller segments in the second half, and transmitting the segments over an intermediate communication link to another node. The transmission of the segments begins before receiving the entire data packet, and retransmission of a corrupted segment takes place as soon as an indication indicative of the corrupted segment is detected.

Abstract: Systems and methods in accordance with various embodiments of the invention enable communicating using nested Low Density Parity Check (LDPC) codes. A nested LDPC code is an LDPC code having a full blocklength, where shorter blocklengths of the nested LDPC code can be utilized as shorter blocklength LDPC codes. In certain embodiments, a transmitter utilizes a nested LDPC code to communicate via a point-to-point connection. In several embodiments, multiple transmitters utilize nested LDPC codes to communicate simultaneously via a Random Access Channel. One embodiment includes a transmitter capable of encoding a message as symbols using a nested LDPC code until a feedback message indicating an end of epoch message is received. A receiver can determine whether a decoding rule is satisfied at predetermined decode times and transmit an end of epoch message when the decoder can decode a message based upon the nested LDPC code.

Abstract: Consistent with the present disclosure, multiple forward error correction (FEC) encoders are provided for encoding a respective one of a plurality of data streams. A mechanism is provided to mix or interleave portions of the encoded data such that each subcarrier carries information associated with each data stream, as opposed to each subcarrier carrying information associated with only a corresponding one of the data streams. As a result, both higher SNR and low SNR optical subcarriers carry such information, such that errors occurring during transmission are distributed and not concentrated or limited to information associated with a single data stream. Accordingly, at the receive end, each FEC decoder decodes information having a similar overall error rate. By balancing the error rates across each FEC encoder/decoder pair, the overall ability to correct errors improves compared to a system in which mixing or interleaving is not carried out.

Abstract: Systems and methods for providing forward error correction for a multi-channel audio signal are described. Blocks of an audio stream are buffered into a frame. A transformation can be applied that compacts the energy of each block into a plurality of transformed channels. The energy compaction transform may compact the most energy of a block into the first transformed channel and to compact decreasing amounts of energy into each subsequent transformed channel. The transformed frame may be encoded using any suitable codec and transmitted in a packet over a network. Improved forward error correction may be provided by attaching a low bit rate encoding of the first transformed channel to a subsequent packet. To reconstruct a lost packet, the low bit rate encoding of the first channel for the lost packet may be combined with a packet loss concealment version of the other channels, constructed from a previously-received packet.
