Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed for optically communicating data by, at a transmitter side, encoding a block of input bits by one or more outer encoders, and after interleaving the encoded bits, permuting the encoded bits according to a predetermined sequence or order, and further encoding the encoded bits by an inner encoder, and at a receiver side, decoding received bits with an inner decoder, and after the encoded bits are permuted, subsequently decoding by and outer decoder, and returning information bits at an outer decoder as an output. The soft-decision and hard-decision outputs from the outer BCH code help the inner LDPC decoder to have better estimation of the received bits and gain performance. The performance in higher-order modulation formats could be as large as 0.5 dB in one embodiment.

A receiving device may receive a transmission in the transmission time interval (TTI), the transmission may include one or a plurality of symbols. The receiving device may identify an uplink acknowledgement channel configuration based on the format of the TTI. The receiving device may send an acknowledgement message to the sending device on the uplink acknowledgement channel according to the uplink acknowledgement channel configuration.

Abstract: The present invention provides a method of transmitting broadcast signals. The method includes, processing input streams into plural PLPs; encoding data of the each PLPs according to code rates, wherein the encoding data of the each PLPs further includes, encoding data of at least one PLP with LDPC codes, bit interleaving the LDPC encoded data of the PLP, mapping the bit interleaved data onto a set of constellations according to the code rate, MIMO encoding the mapped data, and time interleaving the MIMO encoded data; building at least one signal frame by mapping the encoded data of the each PLPs; and modulating data in the built signal frame by OFDM method and transmitting the broadcast signals having the modulated data, wherein the bit interelaved data of each PLPs are mapped by using either QAM, NUQ, or NUC.

Abstract: The continuous demand for capacity and the limited available spectrum in wireless and wired communication has led to reliance on advanced modulation techniques to dramatically increase the number of bits per hertz per second. This demand in capacity and using the higher order constellations shorten the link range, and as a result, system gain becomes an important characteristic. The modulation techniques described here improve the system gain by, e.g., as much as 2.5 dB in high order modulations such as 4096-QAM. The modulation techniques include reducing the peak to average ratio and adding shaping gain. These techniques dramatically improve the system capacity, system gain, power consumption and system cost.

Abstract: Systems and methods for data transport in optical communications systems, including a transmitter for encoding a received information sequence by constructing an outer and inner quasi cyclic-low-density parity check (QC-LDPC) code. The encoding includes dividing the received information sequence into a plurality of messages of equal length, encoding each of the messages into a codeword to generate a plurality of outer codewords, cascading the plurality of outer codewords to generate a bit sequence, and executing inner encoding to encode each of the plurality of outer codewords into codewords in QC-LDPC inner code. A receiver decodes a received data stream based on the QC-LDPC inner code using two-phase decoding including iteratively performing at least one of inner/outer and outer/inner decoding until a threshold condition is reached.

Abstract: Embodiments relate to an apparatus for a regenerative network node between a first and a second link portion. The apparatus comprises an input configured to receive, from the first link portion, a signal impaired by the first link portion, the signal including a data packet with a Forward Error Correction (FEC) encoded payload portion and a header portion. The apparatus comprises a signal regeneration unit configured to mitigate signal impairments of the first link portion to provide a regenerated FEC encoded payload portion. The apparatus comprises a processing unit configured to extract destination information in the data packet's header portion. If extracted destination information indicates that the data packet's destination is the regenerative network node, the data packet's regenerated FEC encoded payload portion is forwarded to a decoding unit of the regenerative network node. Else, the data packet's regenerated FEC encoded payload portion is forwarded to the second link portion.

The method includes, formatting, by an input formatting block, input streams into plural PLPs(Physical Layer Pipes); encoding, by an encoder, data in the plural PLPs; time interleaving, by a time interleaver, the encoded data in the plural PLPs, wherein the time interleaving includes: cell interleaving, by a cell interleaver, the encoded data by permuting cells in a FEC(Forward Error Correction) block in the plural PLPs; frame mapping, by a framer, the time interleaved data onto at least one signal frame; and waveform modulating, by a waveform block, the mapped data in the at least one signal frame and transmitting, by the waveform block, broadcast signals having the modulated data.
