Abstract: The disclosure relates to embodiments of an apparatus for producing polymer composite panels. The polymer composite panels include one or more layers of a polymeric matrix having discontinuous fibers embedded therein. The apparatus has a frame, a deposition bed, and a deposition head configured to move relative to the frame and over the deposition bed. The deposition head includes at least one extruder and a nozzle array. The extruder is configured to force the polymeric matrix and discontinuous fibers through the nozzle array and onto the deposition bed. The deposition head is configured to deposit an entire layer of a polymer composite panel on the deposition bed in a single pass so that the discontinuous fibers are oriented in the direction of the single pass. The disclosure also relates to embodiments of a method of forming a polymer composite panel and to embodiments of a polymer composite panel.

Abstract: Article side polymers useful in the packaging of transdermal patches are disclosed. These films do not absorb skin permeation enhancers that are contained in transdermal patches including keto acids such as levulinic acid or sulfoxides such as an alkyl sulfoxide, e.g., dimethyl sulfoxide. Using such polymeric film, multilayer pouch constructions can be manufactured which include other polymeric layers, such as aluminum foil for moisture and oxygen barrier properties, polyester for tear resistance and paper layers for optimal printing and design.

Abstract: A cushioning article comprises a first and a second polymeric sheet bonded to one another and enclosing an interior cavity. The polymeric sheets retain a gas in the interior cavity. A tensile component disposed in the interior cavity includes a first tensile layer, a second tensile layer, and a plurality of tethers spanning the interior cavity and connecting the first tensile layer to the second tensile layer. An inwardly-protruding bond joins the first polymeric sheet to the first tensile layer, protrudes inward from the first polymeric sheet toward the second polymeric sheet, and partially traverses the plurality of tethers. The first polymeric sheet is displaced from the first tensile layer adjacent to the inwardly-protruding bond by the gas. A method of manufacturing a cushioning article is disclosed.

Abstract: Provided is a thermoplastic resin composition or an adhesive coating material capable of adhering a cyclic polyolefin-based polymer with a metal or metal compound such as aluminum foil or an ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer with sufficient strength. The thermoplastic resin composition contains (A) 100 parts by mass of thermoplastic resin; (B) 0.05 to 5 parts by mass of one or more kinds selected from the group consisting of an unsaturated carboxylic acid and an unsaturated carboxylic acid derivative; and (C) 0.01 to 3 parts by mass of organic peroxide; which component (A) contains (a1) 10 to 90% by mass cyclic polyolefin-based polymer; and (a2) 90 to 10% by mass a hydrogenated product of a block copolymer comprising a polymer block composed mainly of an aromatic vinyl compound and a random copolymer block of a conjugated diene compound and an aromatic vinyl compound (with the proviso that the total of the component (a1) and the component (a2) is 100% by mass).

The hydrogel film may be produced by injecting a monomer solution into a mold, polymerizing the monomer solution in the mold to produce a hydrogel sheet, and cutting the hydrogel sheet to produce one or more hydrogel films. The process may include attaching a hydrogel film of the one or more hydrogel films to a product. Attaching the hydrogel sheet to the product may include applying an adhesive onto the product, placing a first edge of the hydrogel film in the adhesive on the product, and placing a second edge of the hydrogel film in the adhesive on the product.

Abstract: A structural member including a lightweight core, one or more skins, and a crosslinking nanolayer interposed therebetween that results in significant mechanical strength in the structure. The core is a polymer of reduced density by way of included voids, such as an open or closed cell foam, honeycomb, or corrugated structure. The core polymer has a lower density and may have a higher softening or melting temperature than the polymer skin materials. The core may be discontinuous at the interface with the skin such that only a small percentage of the core surface is actually in contact with the skin compared to the overall area of the interface. The skin may be a thermoplastic layer that attaches to the core material. The skin may be a composite material including non-thermoplastic reinforcements. The crosslinking nanolayer is covalently bonded to the surface of the core material and provides molecular compatibility with the skin material.

Abstract: Provided is a resin composition containing polymethallyl alcohol (A) having a repeating structural unit represented by the following formula (1) in an amount of greater than or equal to 30 mol %, and a component (B) that is at least one of an acid component having a pKa of 3.5 to 7.5 and an anion of the acid component, the pKa being a logarithmic value of a reciprocal of an acid dissociation constant at 25° C., a content of the component (B) being greater than or equal to 0.01 μmol per 1 g of the polymethallyl alcohol (A); a method of producing the resin composition; and a molding containing the resin composition.
