Abstract: Provided is a high frequency skull crucible including: a side wall close to a raw material feeder and a side wall on which an outlet is formed, the two side walls being located vertically to face each other; a body located between the two side walls; and high frequency coils adapted to surround a portion of the body that is close to the side wall on which the outlet is formed, wherein the side wall on which the outlet is formed has the outlet formed on top thereof to discharge a melt, the body has the shape of a horizontally located semicylinder or the shape of a horizontally located cylinder whose given upper portion is cut, and the body is inclinedly located on the ground to allow the melt to be made consistently.

The method includes collecting and capturing space debris directly from and suspended in space, heating the collected space debris using solar radiation in a manner that separately and independently melts different constituent elements and compounds in the space debris, collecting the different constituent elements and compounds as they are being separately melted, storing the elements and compounds in a molten, solid or vapor form, and fabricating the space-based component using the stored elements and compounds.

Abstract: The present invention relates to an arrangement for low-pressure casting of refractory metals, with a furnace chamber with one or a plurality of gas supply openings (6) and gas outlet openings (7), and a riser pipe (8) through a cover (5) of the furnace chamber, a melting container (3, 12) for the refractory metals arranged in the furnace chamber, and a heating device for heating the refractory metals in the melting container (3, 12). In the proposed arrangement, the melting container (3, 12) is formed as an exchangeable insert for a receiving mould (2) supporting the melting container (3, 12), which is arranged in the furnace chamber, wherein a thermally insulating layer (4, 17) is formed between the receiving mould (2) and the melting container (3, 12), or is integrated into the melting container (3, 12). With the proposed arrangement, a quick and easy exchange of the melting container for different alloys can also be carried out in the low-pressure casting of refractory metals.

Abstract: A vaporizer includes an outer tube configured to receive a flow of heated gas and an inner tube disposed at least partially within the outer tube. The inner tube is spaced apart from the outer tube such that the flow of heated gas is channeled through an annular space therebetween. The vaporizer also includes a crucible disposed at least partially within the inner tube. The crucible is extendable and retractable relative to the inner tube and within the outer tube. The crucible is configured to hold a molten metal such that a surface area of the molten metal exposed to the flow of heated gas is adjustable based on the position of the crucible relative to the inner tube. A heater is configured to vaporize the molten material and the vapor mixes with the flow of heated gas.

Abstract: A furnace includes a pedestal, a crucible, first and second heaters, and a controller. The crucible is arranged on a pedestal that is movable downwardly and is rotatable. The first and second heaters are spaced vertically along an outer wall of the crucible and are arranged around the crucible to heat pieces of solid material deposited in the crucible. A third heater is arranged above the crucible if the crucible includes a solid cylindrical mold or in a hollow cylindrical space of the crucible if the crucible includes a hollow cylindrical mold. The controller is configured to control the first and second heaters to heat the pieces of the solid material to form a melted liquid. The controller is configured to control the rotational and downward movements of the pedestal relative to the first and second heaters during solidification of the melted liquid to form an ingot.

Abstract: In a known composite material with a fused silica matrix there are regions of silicon-containing phase embedded. In order to provide a composite material which is suitable for producing components for use in high-temperature processes for heat treatment even when exacting requirements are imposed on impermeability to gas and on purity, it is proposed in accordance with the invention that the composite material be impervious to gas, have a closed porosity of less than 0.5% and a specific density of at least 2.19 g/cm3, and at a temperature of 1000° C. have a spectral emissivity of at least 0.7 for wavelengths between 2 and 8 μm.
