Abstract:
Magnetizable microspheres, optionally in aqueous dispersion, consisting of a matrix of at least one organopolysiloxane optionally bearing Si-vinyl groups or reactive and/or ionic units and magnetizable particles less than 300 angstroms in diameter encapsulated in the matrix. The magnetizable microspheres are prepared by homogenizing a solution of the organopolysiloxane and a magnetic fluid in the presence of water and a surfactant, removing the solvent for the organopolysiloxane and the carrier liquid of the magnetic fluid, and at least partially removing the water. The magnetizable microspheres are useful in biological applications as active supports.
Abstract:
A corrosion inhibitor for ferrous and non-ferrous aqueous systems comprising (a) a water soluble phosphonic acid or salt thereof, preferably an amino methylene phosphonic acid; (b) a phosphonocarboxylic acid, preferably a phosphonoalkane carboxylic acid; and (c) a triazole, preferably benzotriazole or tolyltriazole.
Abstract:
An aqueous lubricating composition for tire curing bladders containing polydimethylsiloxane, methyl hydrogen or methyl trimethoxy silane, a surfactant and optionally a metal salt of an organic acid.
Abstract:
An improved process for preparing a sulfur-containing composition useful as a lubricant additive wherein an organic carboxylic acid is sulfurized in the form of the acid or an ester or amide derivative thereof is disclosed. The improvement comprises using as the acid or acid portion of an ester or amide derivative, a carboxylic acid or mixture thereof obtained by telomerizing an ethylenically unsaturated compound under inert conditions in a reaction medium containing from about 10.sup.-3 to about 10.sup.-10 moles per liter of an at least trivalent manganese compound and one or more carbonyl compounds having at least one hydrogen atom on an alpha-carbon atom wherein at least 60 percent by weight of the total carbonyl-containing compound content is present as carboxylic anhydride and the molar ratio of the reacted quantity of ethylenically unsaturated compounds to the at least trivalent manganese compound is at least 4.
Abstract:
The properties of salts of dialkylphosphorodithioic acids are improved by treating said salts or their acid precursors with phosphites, especially triaryl phosphites. This process reduces the tendency of the salts to stain and corrode metal parts, especially copper parts, when incorporated in lubricants and functional fluids. The process may also be used to treat mixed metal salts of dialkylphosphorodithioic and carboxylic acids.
Abstract:
The addition of a small amount of a soluble salt of perhalometallic or perhalometalloidic acid to an energytransmitting functional fluid sharply enhances the anti-erosion properties of the fluid.
Abstract:
A lubricant composition comprising: (i) silver or gold nanoparticles, each of which is encapsulated by a layer of alkylthiol or alkylamine molecules; (ii) palladium or platinum nanoparticles, each of which is encapsulated by a layer of alkylthiol or alkylamine molecules; and (iii) a fluid in which components (i) and (ii) are present. Further described are methods for applying the lubricant composition onto a mechanical device for which lubrication is beneficial, with resulting improvement in friction and wear reduction and/or corrosion inhibition.
Abstract:
A coating composition for the piston of an internal combustion engine comprises 10-30 wt. % of phenolic resin, 10-30 wt. % of epoxy resin, 10-30 wt. % of at least one solid lubricant selected from the group consisting of graphite, MoS2, WS2 and BN, and 5-30 wt. % of Fe2O3 particles.
Abstract:
A threaded tubular connection for drilling or operating hydrocarbon wells contains a portion of a tubular element with a male end having an axis of revolution and provided with a first threading extending about the axis of revolution, the male end portion being complementary with a portion of a tubular element with a female end having an axis of revolution and provided with a second threading extending about the axis of revolution, the male and female end portions being capable of being connected by makeup, each of the male and female end portions further comprising a sealing surface with a metal-metal interference, wherein the threading and the sealing surfaces of the male and female end portions are coated with a metallic anti-corrosion and anti-galling layer wherein zinc (Zn) is the major element by weight. One of the metallic anti-corrosion and anti-galling layers is coated with a passivation layer and the other is at least partially coated with a lubricant layer.
