The skeletal phase has a non-particle-aggregation-type co-continuous structure having an average diameter of submicron to micrometer size, and is constituted of an addition polymer from an epoxy compound of bi- or higher functionality and an amine compound of bi- or higher functionality. Further, the skeletal phase is enriched in organic matter and does not contain any carbon atoms derived from aromatic series.

An ion exchangeable mixture containing a polymeric compound consisting of an ion exchange resin, an acrylamide mixture containing at least one bisacrylamide and at least one acrylamide, and a copolymer obtained by reacting the polymeric compound with the acrylamide mixture, and a method of producing the same are provided. The ion exchangeable membrane produced by using the ion exchangeable mixture has significantly smaller electric resistance than conventional ion exchangeable membranes, and has excellent selective permeability because the ion exchangeable membrane is electrically charged. The ion exchangeable membrane can be produced under very mild production conditions, and thus can be produced very easily. Furthermore, the ion exchangeable membrane can be also formed into film during a crosslinking reaction in a solvent of water, and thus is advantageous in that the ion exchangeable membrane can be freely produced into desired sizes, shapes and forms.

The preparation of concentrated solutions of oxime metal extractants, such as aldoximes and ketoximes, or mixtures of aldoxime and ketoxime, and the use thereof in formulating or preparing extraction reagent compositions for use in an extractant organic phase in a process of extracting metals from aqueous solutions containing metal values; and in particular, to concentrates which are solutions of individual ketoxime or aldoxime or mixtures of water-insoluble hydroxy aldoximes and ketoximes, in varying ratios by weight of 1:100 aldoxime to ketoxime, or conversely, 100:1 ketoxime to aldoxime, in water-immiscible hydrocarbon solvents or equilibrium modifiers. The invention also provides for maintaining stability of concentrates determined by accelerating rate calorimetry to define the ranges of oxime concentration and volume whereby the concentrate will be a stable, flowable, pourable and pumpable concentrate which can be safely stored long term. The extraction compositions may also optionally contain equilibrium modifiers or kinetic additives.

New diphosphonic acid diesters in which the two phosphorus atoms are bound by a hydrocarbon group while each of the two acid functions of the diphosphonate is esterified by a radical having at least three carbon atoms are prepared by the treatment with a weak base of a corresponding tetramethyl diphosphonate, thereupon replacement of the cations of the base in the resultant disalt, by a radical R by means of a halide of said radical, and finally hydrolysis of the mixed diphosphonate thus obtained. The new compounds are suitable for various known uses of the different diphosphonates and in particular for the complexing of heavy metals; they are used in particular for the extraction of uranium and metals associated with it.

The invention concerns solid complexes for binding hydrocarbons and a process for their preparation. Said complexes are formed by an amine bound to a substrate (clay, glass, organic polymer) through a binding reagent which is an acid chloride. To prepare the complexes, the amine is reacted with the previously activated substrate and becomes covalently bound thereto. The hydrocarbons and other organic materials are bound to the amine by a hydrophobic linkage. Proteins may also be bound to the complex by means of a hydrophobic linkage. The complexes according to the invention are useful in the purification of waters containing hydrocarbons, in the analysis of hydrocarbons, in the separation of proteins, etc..
