Abstract: A cell culture apparatus includes a cell culture module including multiple cell culture chambers. A manifold connects the multiple cell culture chambers together along a side of the cell culture module. The manifold includes a side wall base structure connected to the side of the cell culture module and a column structure that is formed as a monolithic part of the side wall base structure. The column structure defines a fluid flow pathway through the manifold and to inlets to the cell culture chambers to allow filling and emptying of the cell culture chambers of liquid medium.

Abstract: A system and method are provided for harvesting target biological substances. The system includes a substrate and a first and second channel formed in the substrate. The channels longitudinally extending substantially parallel to each other. A series of gaps extend from the first channel to the second channel to create a fluid communication path passing between a series of columns with the columns being longitudinally separated by a predetermined separation distance. The system also includes a first source configured to selectively introduce into the first channel a first biological composition at a first channel flow rate and a second source configured to selectively introduce into the second channel a second biological composition at a second channel flow rate. The sources are configured to create a differential between the first and second channel flow rates to generate physiological shear rates along the second channel that are bounded within a predetermined range.

The removable barrier component is configured to at least partially define a first region. The removable barrier component includes a bottom surface and a top surface. The bottom surface configured to be in contact with the plate. The top surface is opposite the bottom surface. The press is configured to engage the top surface of the removable barrier component to apply a predetermined pressure to the removable barrier component. The removable barrier component is between the press and the plate. A joint between the plate and the removable barrier component may be substantially impermeable to live cells. The apparatus may further include a removable cover that engages the base to enclose the plate, the removable barrier component, and the press.

Abstract: A rotary planar peristaltic micropump (RPPM) includes an actuator having a shaft engaged with a motor such that activation of the motor causes the shaft to rotate, and a bearing assembly engaged with the shaft. The bearing assembly has a bearing cage defining a plurality of spaced-apart openings thereon, and a plurality of rolling-members accommodated in the plurality of spaced-apart openings of the bearing cage, such that when the shaft rotates, the plurality of rolling-members of the bearing assembly rolls along a circular path. The RPPM also includes a fluidic path in fluidic communication with first and second ports. The fluidic path is positioned under the actuator and coincident with the circular path, such that when the shaft of the actuator rotates, the plurality of rolling-members of the bearing assembly rolls along the fluidic path to cause a fluid to transfer between the first and second ports.
