摘要: A container assembly includes a flexible bag having an interior surface bounding a chamber and an opposing exterior surface. The bag has a bottom end wall that includes a first sparger and a second sparger. The first sparger and the second sparger each have a flexible first sheet overlying a flexible second sheet, the first sheet and the second sheet being secured together so as to form a sparging area bounded between the first sheet and the second sheet, at least a portion of the first sheet overlying the sparging area being gas permeable so that gas can pass from the sparging area, through the first sheet, and into the chamber.

摘要: A gravitational liquid-splitting device has a funnel, a dispensing valve, a liquid-splitting part, and a stirring assembly. The funnel has an inner space and a bottom opening connected to each other. The dispensing valve is mounted to the funnel and is configured to close or open the bottom opening of the funnel. The liquid-splitting part is connected to a bottom of the funnel and has an input channel and two output channels. The input channel is formed in the liquid-splitting part and extends upward and downward. An upper end of the input channel forms an input opening on a top of the liquid-splitting part and is connected to the bottom opening of the funnel. The stirring assembly has a stirrer configured to stir liquid in the funnel. Therefore, the gravitational liquid-splitting device improves efficiency and quality, and also reduces risk of contamination in the cell passaging operation.

摘要: A microfluidic apparatus includes a microfluidic chip for MicroOrganoSpheres (MOS) generation. A first channel is defined in a surface of the microfluidic chip and includes: a droplet generation portion including an inlet portion, a junction between the inlet portion and an emulsifying fluid channel, and a chamber downstream of the junction. A cross-sectional area of the chamber is larger than that of the inlet portion. The first channel includes a polymerization portion downstream of the droplet generation portion, the polymerization portion having a serpentine configuration. The apparatus includes a cartridge for MOS demulsification, including: a collection container; a substrate disposed on the collection container, and a membrane disposed between the collection container and the surface of the substrate. A second channel is defined in the surface of the substrate that faces the collection container and is fluidically connected to an output of the polymerization portion of the first channel.

摘要: A biological culture unit comprises a chamber body and a valve plate. The chamber body has defined therein a growth chamber and an aliquot chamber. The valve plate is disposed on the top surface of the chamber body and is movable to define selectable configurations of the biological culture unit for: (1) loading the growth chamber; (3) transferring an aliquot from the growth chamber to the aliquot chamber via a path defined within the biological culture unit in the transfer position; and (4) extracting the aliquot from the aliquot chamber. The selectable positions may further include (2) a growth position, and (5) a termination position for putting a termination agent into the growth and aliquot chambers. The valve plate may further include a neutralizer port that is aligned with the aliquot chamber in the loading position, for loading a neutralizing agent into the aliquot chamber.

The method can include: creating an algae based material from cultivating algae for biofuel production and/or processing algae for biofuel production; heating the algae based material; and extruding the algae base material using a three-dimensional printer, the extruding including extruding the algae based material in a concentric pattern in the z-axis to form the biomass receptacles, such that the heating of the algae based material enhances the extrusion.
