The present invention related to an apparatus and method for the manufacturing of beverage capsules. The apparatus can preheat the material used to form the beverage material during the manufacturing process. The material and apparatus are particularly suitable for use in producing single serve beverage capsules from biodegradable materials.

The invention relates to a deep drawing film, comprising—a sealing layer,—a gas barrier layer and—an outer layer made of a polyester, wherein the outer layer has a thickness which correponds at the maximum to 40% of a total thickness of the deep drawing film. The invention is characterized in that an intermediate layer of an olefin homopolymer and/or copolymers is arranged between the gas barrier layer and the outer layer.

The disclosure describes a thermoforming machine, which can include a horizontal intermittent motion thermoforming machine, and a mold, wherein the mold contains a plurality of pocket forming cavities in a 2-dimensional array. These cavities can each be defined by side walls and a base, and each cavity can be surrounded by a planar surface of the mold on all sides. Further, the cavities can be positioned in the array so as to provide a plurality of continuous strips of uninterrupted planar surface of the mold from a leading to a trailing edge of the mold. These cavities can have rounded bottom corners, formed where the side walls meet the base, and rounded edges, formed where side walls meet an upper surface of the mold. The thermoforming machine can be further configured to be able to draw a web of water-soluble film down into the cavities.

The package includes a first film and a second film forming an enclosure and at least one tab area and defining a package periphery, the enclosure defining an interior volume configured to receive a product. The package further includes first and second breachable bubbles formed within first and second tab portions of the at least one tab area. Upon application of pressure by a user, the first and second breachable bubbles breach. The package may be alternated between a first position, wherein the first tab portion and the second tab portion are substantially sealed from each other to facilitate breaching, and a second position, wherein the first tab portion and the second tab portion are in fluid communication with each other.

Apparatus and methods of forming selected portions of integral sheets of material are disclosed. Unformed portions of the sheets may remain undistorted during the forming process, allowing them to contain text, art work, or other desired information without material risk of the information being degraded or becoming unintelligible during the forming process. This result may be accomplished, moreover, with less trim than usually occurs in conventional forming processes.
