摘要: Disclosed herein is an all-in-one methodology for the fabrication and the programming of soft machines. Instead of relying on the assembly of individual parts, the disclosed approach harnesses interfacial flows in elastomers that progressively cure to robustly produce monolithic pneumatic actuators whose shape can easily be tailored to suit applications ranging from artificial muscles to grippers. Rationalized herein are the fluid mechanics at play in the assembly of the disclosed actuators and modeled herein are their subsequent morphing. This quantitative knowledge was leveraged to program these soft machines and produce complex functionalities, for example sequential motion obtained from a monotonic stimulus. It is expected that the flexibility, robustness, and predictive nature of the disclosed methodology will accelerate the proliferation of soft robotics by enabling the assembly of complex actuators, for example long, tortuous, or vascular structures, thereby paving the way towards new functionalities stemming from geometric and material nonlinearities.

摘要: A method of molding an interior part for a vehicle includes determining a 3D graphic sample model. A shape of the sample model has concave portions having curvatures determined through 3D modeling and gradients of an inner surface of each concave portion. A molded sample having the same general shape as the sample model is injection molded. Information related to scratch occurrence positions is acquired from the molded sample. Information of curvatures and gradients of the concave portions of the sample model are acquired and collected at positions on the sample model corresponding to the scratch occurrence positions. A limit angle and limit angle are determined by using the collected information and preset curvatures for the concave portion of a design of the interior part. The interior part having the concave portion with a shape based on the determined draft angle and the preset curvatures can then be injection molded.

摘要: A molded vehicle component (10) having a skin (14) and a lower density core (16) formed by a co-injection molding process. In a first phase, a first material for forming the skin of class A surface material is injected into a mold to partially fill the mold cavity (104). Thereafter, in a second phase, a second material is injected into the same cavity (104) to complete filling of the mold cavity (104). The second material can flow only to portions of the part where the first material is still molten and displaces the molten core of the first phase, pushing it away from co-injection gates until the mold cavity is full. The second material is pre-treated with a chemical blowing agent in order to reduce part weight by foaming the core material. The finished co-injection molded part (10) has one material on all visible class A surfaces (14) and a core (16) that is a different, less dense material.

摘要: Described herein is a bike including a frame member linking the front and rear wheel(s) made up of a first forward section or sections extending from the front wheel(s) and a second rear section or sections extending from the rear wheel(s). The section endings mate about a lockable connection assembly that is also in communication with a seat-post connected to the seat. The frame sections pivot about a connection assembly axis in a direction perpendicular to the bike frame and the seat-post is able to be moved independent of the frame sections. A key advantage of the above bike is the high range of height adjustability allowing the bike to be used by range of different sized users. Height adjustment is also very easy and may be done toolessly. Further, maintaining the seat in a desired riding alignment independent of frame movement is important otherwise the rider position will change relative to the handlebars leading in extreme cases to falls from the bike. Use of gas assisted injection moulding in bike manufacture is also described.

摘要: A load bearing panel member having a first portion, a second portion, and an appearance surface portion is formed by injection molding such that the first portion includes a plurality of ribs forming a grid pattern on the first portion and another plurality of ribs extending toward the periphery of the first portion which may be non-orthogonal to each other and to the ribs forming the grid pattern. An internal channel may be formed within each of the non-orthogonal ribs by injecting a gas into the rib during the molding process forming the panel. An appearance surface portion attached to the first portion and second portion of the panel member forms an integral hinge between the first and second portions of the panel member. The panel member may be configured as a floor panel of a vehicle.
