摘要:
In the preferred embodiments, the present invention provides substantially improved slit sheet cushioning products by advantageously combining novel paper properties with novel slit patterns for improved features and characteristics. In some illustrative and non-limiting example embodiments, cushioning products of the present invention can include, e.g., a novel slit sheet material in combination with extensible paper employed as, e.g., a cushioning pad or as cushioning within an envelope product, wherein the cushioning product can be substantially more resilient, but, yet, e.g., thinner for better utilization of space.

A dunnage conversion system includes a machine for converting a stock material (14) into a strip of relatively lower-density dunnage, a coiling mechanism (20) for winding the strip into a coil, a taping mechanism (22) for automatically securing a trailing end of the strip to the coil, and a coil ejecting mechanism (24) for automatically removing the coil from the coiling mechanism. The taping mechanism includes a guide surface (70) between an outlet of the machine and the coiling mechanism to guide the strip to the coiling mechanism and to guide tape for engagement with a trailing end of the strip and to secure the trailing end of the strip to the coil. The coil ejecting mechanism includes a lever arm (126) that pivots to push the completed coil off the coiling mechanism.

A system and method for forming a vacuum bag packaging material into a desired shape includes subjecting the exterior of the packaging material to a vacuum to expand the packaging material. The expanded packaging material is then pressed into or against a forming device. Expanding the packaging material renders a filler material inside a sealed packaging membrane free flowing, such that the packaging material can assume the shape of the forming device during the pressing operation. When the vacuum is removed, the membrane recompresses upon the filler material and renders it non-free flowing such that the formed packaging material maintains the formed shape during ordinary handling.

A fabrication machine is disclosed herein. In various aspects, the fabrication machine includes a brake adapted to mechanically cooperate with a wrapper to impart a longitudinal tension to the wrapper by controlling the force required to advance the wrapper, the wrapper comprised of a cellulose-based material. The brake is adjustable to allow selection of longitudinal tension in the wrapper, in various aspects. Various aspects may include a wrapper roll in mechanical cooperation with the brake, the wrapper being drawn from the wrapper roll as the wrapper is advanced. The fabrication machine secures the wrapper at the selected tension about the core to form a structural member, in various aspects. Methods of use of the fabrication machine are disclosed herein. This Abstract is presented to meet requirements of 37 C.F.R. §1.72(b) only. This Abstract is not intended to identify key elements of the apparatus and methods disclosed herein or to delineate the scope thereof.
摘要:
The dunnage can be used for protecting edges of articles such as wood furniture during shipping and has a honeycomb panel having a first and second opposed faces, and a first and second adjacent panel sections folded relative to each other along a V-groove extending into the first face, a layer of antiskid cohesive material applied on the V-groove and maintaining said first and second adjacent panels in said folded configuration, and also applied on a substantial portion of one of said first and second adjacent panel sections, on the first face. The cohesive on the exposed face of the folded dunnage acts as an antiskid which reduces the likelihood of the dunnage sliding once applied to the edge of the article, and also reduces the abrasiveness of the honeycomb panel. A process of production is also disclosed where the V-groove can be made on line.

A novel packaging wrap is used in cushioning a product for shipment and is formed from the combination of a layer of pleated sheet material, the pleated material being creased at the apices of each pleat, and a planar layer of sheet material which is adhered to, and preferably, adhesively bonded, to a pleated sheet of kraft paper. The pleated sheet material has a weight in the range from about 30 to 50 pounds and the planar sheet material is preferably tissue paper having a weight of less than about 20 pounds. The pleated sheet material preferably, has a pleat angle in the range from above 45 degrees to below 85 degrees, and most preferably the pleats have an angle of about 50 to 65 degrees. Preferably, the pleats have a height in the range from about 3 sixteenths of an inch to about one half inch, in terms of distance between top planar sheet and bottom planar sheet.
