A fabrication machine is disclosed herein. In various aspects, the fabrication machine includes a brake adapted to mechanically cooperate with a wrapper to impart a longitudinal tension to the wrapper by controlling the force required to advance the wrapper, the wrapper comprised of a cellulose-based material. The brake is adjustable to allow selection of longitudinal tension in the wrapper, in various aspects. Various aspects may include a wrapper roll in mechanical cooperation with the brake, the wrapper being drawn from the wrapper roll as the wrapper is advanced. The fabrication machine secures the wrapper at the selected tension about the core to form a structural member, in various aspects. Methods of use of the fabrication machine are disclosed herein. Apparatus for forming continuous tubing from a strip of web-like material such as plastic and the like in which a guide tube is surrounded by a shaping tube and spaced therefrom, said shaping tube having a terminal edge oblique to the longitudinal axis thereof, so that the strip of material in the shape of a longitudinal open channel is advanced at a substantial angle to the axis of the shaping tube and is folded inwardly about the oblique terminal edge thereof so as to surround the guide tube with its longitudinal edges overlapped. The web-like material can be welded or heat sealed along the overlapping edges to form continuous tubing. Also if desired the shaped strip of material can be folded inwardly over the end of the guide tube and a filling pipe can be inserted into the tubing for admitting substances into the tubing so that packages can be formed as the continuous tubing is advanced.

A process for making disposable absorbent articles including continuously moving a first layer in a first direction and a second layer in a second direction, continuously providing elongate elastic members to the first layer and to the second layer, folding the layers over the elongate elastic members, joining the elongate elastic members to the layers to form first and second continuous elastic composites, continuously moving a base layer having opposite edge portions, continuously delivering the first and the second continuous elastic composites to respective edge portions of the base layer, joining the first and the second continuous elastic composites to the edge portions of the base layer, providing a plurality of spaced apart absorbent structures on the base layer, folding the continuously moving base layer, bonding the folded base layer between the absorbent structures, and cutting the folded base layer to form a plurality of disposable absorbent articles.
