Abstract: The invention relates to a partial oxidation reactor (POX reactor) for producing a raw synthesis gas stream by partial oxidation of a carbon-containing input stream in gaseous form, in liquid form or in solid, particulate form dispersed in a carrier liquid or a carrier gas in the presence of an oxygen-containing oxidant stream and optionally a moderator stream containing steam and/or carbon dioxide. The invention further relates to a process for producing a raw synthesis gas stream. The partial oxidation reactor according to the invention provides for introducing a cylindrical or frustoconical inlet region having a constant diameter or a diameter that is smaller on the entrance side. The inlet region is arranged upstream of a cylindrical main reactor portion and represents a bottleneck-like section since the largest diameter of the inlet region is smaller than the diameter of the cylindrical main reactor portion.

Abstract: A reactor and process for the production of bio-diesel. The reactor includes one or more coiled reaction lines. The lines are positioned within a tank containing a heat transfer media such as molten salt, maintained at about 750° F. A pump circulates the media within the tank. An emulsion of alcohol; refined feed stock, including glycerides and/or fatty acids; and preferably water is pumped through the reaction lines at temperatures and pressures sufficient to maintain the alcohol in a super-critical state. The curvature of the coils, pump pulsing, and the flow rate of the emulsion keep the emulsion in a turbulent state while in the reactor, ensuring thorough mixing of the alcohol and feed stock. The alcohol reacts with the glycerides and fatty acids to form bio-diesel. The reaction is fast, efficient with regard to energy input and waste generation, and requires minimal alcohol.

The second inlet tube is coupled to the upstream housing and configured to receive a second portion of the exhaust gas from the upstream housing. The mixing housing is coupled to the first inlet tube and the second inlet tube. The mixing housing is configured to receive the first portion of the exhaust gas from the first inlet tube and receive the second portion of the exhaust gas from the second inlet tube. The mixing housing is separated from the upstream housing by the first inlet tube and the second inlet tube.

Abstract: A sealing assembly creating a sealed flow path between fluid ducts. The seal assembly comprises a housing and a tubular element within the housing providing a fluid conduit between the fluid ducts. Two sealing elements each have an internal sealing face sealably engaged with the tube and an external face for sealing, in use, with a respective fluid duct. At least one of the sealing elements is slidable with respect to the tubes. A support is slidably retained by the housing, surrounds one end of the tube and supports one of the slidable sealing elements on the side of the sealing element opposite to its external face. A resilient element within the housing biases the support so as to urge the two sealing elements apart.
