A method of molding a component includes the steps of providing a plurality of fibers, applying the fibers with a low temperature sizing to form a plurality of sized fibers, forming a preform from the plurality of sized fibers, placing the preform in a mold, and de-sizing the preform by heating the mold to an initial temperature that is sufficient to break down the low temperature sizing to a gaseous phase. A molding apparatus is also disclosed.

In a featured embodiment, a fan rotor comprises a platform. Clevises extend radially inwardly of the platform. Each clevis has an aperture. A hub has hub lugs positioned intermediate spaced ends of the clevises, and apertures. A pin extends through the apertures in the hub and the clevises to connect the platform to the hub. The apertures in the clevises are formed to have an inner surface for supporting the pin. A method of forming a fan blade platform is also disclosed.

A method for fabricating a ceramic component is disclosed. The method may comprise: 1) forming a polymer template having a shape that is an inverse of a shape of the ceramic component, 2) placing the polymer template in a mold; 3) injecting the polymer template with a ceramic slurry, 4) firing the ceramic slurry at a temperature to produce a green body, and 5) sintering the green body at an elevated temperature to provide the ceramic component.

An investment mold includes a mold cavity and a refractory investment wall that bounds at least a portion of the mold cavity. At least a portion of the refractory investment wall includes a plurality of fugitive beads. The fugitive beads can be sacrificed to provide voids that control the strength of the refractory investment wall such that the wall fractures at the voids during investment casting to alleviate stress on a solidified metal cast in the mold cavity.
