Abstract:
A method of preparing a foamable polyvinyl system resin composition which renders a non-flammable, high strength to weight ratio foam product comprises, reacting at least 0.05 parts by weight of an organic radical initiator per 1 part by weight of polyvinyl system resin with the components consisting essentially of (a) at least one polyvinyl system resin (b) 2-100 parts by weight of at least one inorganic filler per 1 part by weight of polyvinyl system resin (c) an effective amount of at least one blowing agent.
Abstract:
A process for preparing a foamed and crosslinked polyethylene resin shaped article having improved heat-sealability, which comprises melt-kneading (a) a silane-modified polyethylene resin, (b) a heat-decomposable blowing agent, (c) a silanol condensation catalyst, and (d) an organic peroxide at a temperature lower than the decomposition temperature of the heat-decomposable blowing agent (b), shaping the mixture, and heating the resulting foamable and crosslinkable shaped articles to the decomposition temperature of the heat-decomposable blowing agent or to a higher temperature thereby to foam and crosslink it; and a foamable and crosslinkable polyethylene resin composition used therefor.
Abstract:
This invention relates to the impregnation of rigid porous articles, particularly metal castings. In its preferred form the impregnant is a liquid mixture of monofunctional (meth)acrylic ester and a relatively small proportion of polyfunctional (meth)acrylic ester to provide a cross linked product on curing and to facilitate washing of the casting with water and an emulsifier. A peroxy or other free radical catalyst such as AZBN is associated in the impregnant with an inhibitor such as a hydroquinone derivative so that curing can be effected at a temperature of 90.degree. C. within 3 to 15 minutes. Curing is preferably effected by immersion in a hot water bath.
Abstract:
Compounds which contain azo or peroxide linkages as well as the radical of an ultraviolet light stabilizing group are described. These compounds function as polymerization initiators which cause an ultraviolet light stabilization group to be chemically bound to the polymer.
Abstract:
A composition is disclosed of a diazonium salt, a resinous carrier, and a solvent. The composition is applied to a portion of an electrical apparatus which is exposed to a gas stream. The solvent in the composition is evaporated to produce a thermoparticulating coating. When the electrical apparatus overheats the diazonium salt in the coating forms particles in the gas stream which are detected by a monitor.
