Abstract:
The present invention relates to an alkane-sulfonation process using alkane and sulfur trioxide, especially pure sulfur trioxide (100%) under solvent-free conditions in the presence of an initiator. It further relates to the use of a precursor which forms “in-situ” an initiator for manufacturing of alkanesulfonic acids, especially methanesulfonic acids.
Abstract:
Method and system for forming an anhydrous sterilant. In one embodiment, anhydrous peracetic acid is combined with carbon dioxide, wherein the carbon dioxide is in one of a liquid, solid, and supercritical state.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to the discovery of a novel endophytic fungus, Muscodor vitigenus, from the liana, Paullinia paullinioides. This fungus produces naphthalene under certain cultural conditions that has chromatographic and mass spectral properties that are identical to authentic naphthalene. In a preferred embodiment, the naphthalene in the gas phase of M. vitigenus is useful in the repellency of unwanted insect pests. The unique biological activity of the novel endophyte suggests a wide range of potential practical applications, particularly in the area of insect repellents, insecticides, antimicrobials, anthelmintics and vermicides.
Abstract:
Peroxidic perfluoropolyethers having formula: X1—O(CF2O)n1(CF2CF2O)m1(CF2(CF2)zCF2O)p1(O)h—X2 (I)wherein: X1 and X2, equal to or different from each other, are chain end groups selected among —CF2COF, —COF, —SO2F; n1, m1, p1 and h are integers such that the number average molecular weight is in the range 700-100,000; z=1 or 2; with the proviso that: the m1/n1 ratio is between 0.2 and 10; the p1/(n1+m1) ratio is lower than 0.05; the h/(n1+m1+p1) ratio is such that the PO content, defined as grams of active oxygen/100 g of compound, is in the range 0.8-4.5, preferably 1.4-3.8; the perfluorooxyalkylene units being statistically distributed along the polymeric chain.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a process to prepare a sulfinate, which is useful for preparing a synthetic intermediate of an organic compound, especially for a color coupler, characterized by reducing a sulfonyl chloride with a sulfite or a hydrogensulfite in the presence of a hydrogenphosphate.
Abstract:
A process for the continuous recovery of (meth) acrylic acid from the reaction gases of a catalytic gas-phase oxidation by (I) absorption in a high-boiling solvent, (II) isolation of the (meth)acrylic acid from the mixture with the solvent and, if required, further purification of the (meth)acrylic acid isolated, (III) purification of the solvent and (IV) recycling of the purified solvent to absorption stage (I) is proposed, the temperature in each process stage not exceeding 155null C., in particular 140null C., preferably 120null C.
Abstract:
Process for the preparation of N-carboxy-t-leucine anhydride in which the corresponding N-carboxy-t-leucine is subjected to a cyclization with the aid of an acyl halogenide. Preferably, acetyl chloride is used as acyl halogenide. The N-carboxy-t-leucine anhydride obtained optionally is subsequently converted into a t-leucine-N-substituted amide with the aid of the corresponding amine. Preferably, methyl amine is chosen as the amine, and the reaction is carried out in a mixture of water and methanol as solvent.
Abstract:
Storage stable liquid compositions are prepared from solid acyl alkylsulfonyl peroxides and polar or polarizable solvents or solvent mixtures. The compositions are liquid at 0.degree. to -40.degree. C and are useful as free-radical initiators for polymerizaton of vinyl monomers.
Abstract:
A solid, frozen organic peroxide emulsion comprising from 30 to 75 weight percent organic peroxide, an emulsifying amount of surfactant(s) and the remainder water is described. Organic peroxides described include: dialkyl peroxydicarbonates, e.g., di-secondarybutyl peroxydicarbonate, diacyl peroxides, e.g., diisobutyryl peroxide, and acyl sulfonyl peroxides, e.g., acetylcyclohexylsulfonyl peroxide. The surfactant can be anionic, cationic, or nonionic, preferably nonionic, or mixtures of compatible surfactants.
