摘要: Tumor resection is commonly practiced to prevent the progression of cancer. However, there are post-surgery concerns including the formation of a void that can allow cancer cells to escape at the surgery site, which increases the risk of metastasis. To counter this challenge, an embodiment includes a polyurethane-based shape memory foam as a tissue void-filling device that can also release anti-cancer drugs. Such foams may activate at body temperature and become malleable. Such properties may enable the foam to be shaped to precisely seal the tissue void and then serve as a drug-eluting device. Based on the drug composition with poly vinyl alcohol (PVA), the drug release profile from the foam may be altered depending on the application.

摘要: A magnetic biomolecule-metal ion self-assembly complex for treatment includes an iron ion; and at least one ligand, wherein the ligand and the iron ion are reversibly self-assembled with each other or self-disassembled from each other, wherein the ligand and the iron ion are self-assembled with each other via a first bond to form a self-assembly, wherein the self-assembling is performed by at least one of the metal ion and the ligand, wherein the self-assembly includes a plural of self-assemblies, wherein the self-assemblies adjacent to each other self-bind to each other via a second bond to form the self-assembly complex. The magnetic biomolecule-metal ion self-assembly complex is effectively used for cancer treatment, osteoarthritis treatment, and bone defect treatment.

摘要: A soft tissue device can incorporate a composite material comprising a gel and at least one nanostructure disposed within the gel. A soft tissue device can further incorporate biologically active materials such as cells, tissues. A method for healing a soft tissue defect while promoting soft tissue regeneration can include applying a soft tissue device to a soft tissue defect, wherein the composite material includes a gel and a nanostructure disposed within the gel. A method for manufacturing a soft tissue device for use in healing soft tissue defects can include providing a gel, disposing nanofibers within the gel, and a biologically active material.

摘要: An implant for releasing one or more substances within the body is provided. The implant can include a scaffold configured to be implanted within the body to provide a foundation for an implant that provides structural support for promoting meniscus repair and regeneration. The scaffold can be loaded with medicants and/or analgesics that are capable of being released from the implant following implantation to promote healing and reduce inflammation post-surgery. The scaffold can be refilled with substances once implanted. For example, the implant can be connected to an access port that is embedded in the skin to allow refilling of the scaffold. In some embodiments, the scaffold can include a plurality of chambers that are configured to retain a separate substances therein.

摘要: An exchangeable optics system includes magnetic fixation points that are anchored to the outside of the eye. The fixation points can include magnetic barbed tacks, magnetic soft tissue screws, or a sclera buckle with permanent magnets. Fiducials on the fixation points help with visibility during implantation of an exchangeable intraocular lens (IOL) or other devices. The exchangeable optic can be suspended within the eye by way of tethers having ends of magnetic metal or permanent magnetic material that magnetically couple with the magnetic fixation points. The lengths of the suspension tethers can be adjusted in small increments with other magnets in order to place the lens into position with a proper three-dimensional orientation within the eye.
