Abstract: Disclosed are a method for inducing a prediction motion vector and an apparatus using the same. An image decoding method can include: a step of determining the information related to a plurality of spatial candidate prediction motion vectors from peripheral predicted blocks of a predicted target block; and a step of determining the information related to temporal candidate prediction motion vectors on the basis of the information related to the plurality of spatial candidate prediction motion vectors. Accordingly, the present invention can reduce complexity and can enhance coding efficiency when inducing the optimum prediction motion vector.

Abstract: Disclosed are systems and techniques for efficient real-time codec encoding of video files. In one embodiment, the techniques include obtaining a first plurality of motion vectors of a first resolution, generating a second plurality of motion vectors of a second resolution, and calculating a first cost of the motion vector using a first cost function of a first size. The techniques include selecting a subset of motion vectors of the second plurality of motion vectors, calculating a second cost using a second cost function of a second size, and generating a plurality of combined motion vectors based on the subset of motion vectors. The techniques include calculating a third cost using the second cost function of the second size, selecting a final motion vector, and generating, based on the selected final motion vector, a block of predicted pixels that approximates a block of source pixels of an image frame.

Abstract: In a method of video encoding, a corresponding block of a current block in a current picture is determined based on an offset vector that indicates an offset between the current block and the corresponding block. The current block includes a plurality of subblocks to be encoded in a subblock-based frame-rate up conversion (FRUC) mode. A temporal motion vector predictor (TMVP) of a first subblock in the corresponding block is determined based on a subblock in a forward reference picture of the current picture and a subblock in a backward reference picture of the current picture. The subblocks in the forward reference picture and the backward reference picture are matched using the subblock-based FRUC mode. Based on the TMVP, a TMVP of a subblock is determined in the plurality of subblocks in the current block.

Abstract: A computing system receives a video bitstream that comprises a current block within a current picture and one or more syntax elements. The current block is encoded in a subblock-based motion vector (MV) refinement mode using information from a first reference block and a second reference block. The system applies a MV refinement to generate a refined first MV indicating a first location of the first reference block and a refined second MV indicating a second location of the second reference block. Subsequent to applying the MV refinement, in accordance with a determination that (i) the first location is outside of a first set of reference boundaries and/or (ii) the second location is outside of a second set of reference boundaries, the system decodes the current block using a weighted average of respective values from the first and second locations.
