摘要: A device that detects the presence of surfactant residues utilizes a motion-based camphor test to detect surfactant(s) and surface-active molecules. The device, also referred to as a camphor-based dynamic tensiometer, can be used to detect desirable and/or undesirable surfactant(s). For example, surfactants used for membrane cleaning, as surface active ingredients, need to be rinse out of surfaces. Especially for porous membranes the rinsing of the Permeate side is water-intensive, since the huge membrane area of the porous structure. Thus, a camphor-based dynamic tensiometer can be automated to determine end of rinse in systems that utilize CIP chemistries containing surfactant(s). Proper rinse of CIP chemistry(ies) is key while removing the cleaning chemistry and balancing on the other hand water spent for the rinse, as membranes are difficult to rinse due to the porosity of the membrane towards the permeate site and the big inner surface of the porous structure.

摘要: A vehicle coolant system includes a pipe configured to facilitate a flow of vehicle coolant through the pipe, a light source configured to transmit at least one wavelength of light through the vehicle coolant, and a signal detector configured to receive at least one wavelength of light transmitted through the vehicle coolant, and to generate a signal intensity value corresponding to a measured intensity of the at least one wavelength of light received at the signal detector. A controller is configured to receive the signal intensity value from the signal detector, identify a coolant contamination threshold value corresponding to the vehicle coolant, compare the signal intensity value received from the signal detector to the coolant contamination threshold value, and initiate a vehicle coolant remedial action according to a result of comparing the signal intensity value received from the signal detector to the coolant contamination threshold value.

摘要: A method and test apparatus determines a volume of a droplet of liquid. The test apparatus deposits a drop of liquid to be measured on a surface that provides a known contact angle with the liquid under the deposition conditions used, thereby establishing one of: (i) an advancing, (ii) a receding, and (iii) an intermediate contact angle. The test apparatus images the drop. The test apparatus measures a dimension of height or diameter of the drop. In one embodiment, the test apparatus calculates a volume of the drop of liquid from the relationship of the contact angle to one or more parameters selected from the maximum height, the diameter of the contact patch, the radius of curvature, or the cross sectional area of the drop.
