    摘要: The invention relates to a precipitation method and corresponding precipitation capsules for the precipitation of poorly-soluble materials such as barium sulphate for example, whereby the desired poorly-soluble material is obtained by mixing two individual components in a precipitation capsule and reaction together of said individual components. According to the invention, precipitates with defined particle sizes in the range from 0.1-2 nullm with high throughput may be achieved, whereby the precipitation is carried out continuously in one of the precipitation capsules with differing precipitation volumes (residence times) with subsequent homogenisation in a static mixer.

    摘要: A kit for prescreening protein concentration for crystallization includes a multiplicity of vials, a multiplicity of pre-selected reagents, and a multiplicity of sample plates. The reagents and a corresponding multiplicity of samples of the protein in solutions of varying concentrations are placed on sample plates. The sample plates containing the reagents and samples are incubated. After incubation the sample plates are examined to determine which of the sample concentrations are too low and which the sample concentrations are too high. The sample concentrations that are optimal for protein crystallization are selected and used.

    摘要: Slurry phase apparatus is provided which includes a slurry vessel for holding a slurry comprising a liquid and solid particles and gas distribution means for injecting a gas into the slurry. The gas distribution means includes a sparger device which includes an apertured sparger portion inside the slurry vessel, an inlet portion leading into the slurry vessel and an outlet portion leading from the slurry vessel. The gas distribution means also includes closure means, external of the slurry vessel, and being operable to allow or deny flow from the sparger portion out through the outlet portion of the sparger device. The invention extends to a method of introducing or reintroducing a gas into a slurry vessel.

    摘要: Compositions that include a mixture of biosoluble inorganic fibers and a micaceous binder are described. The compositions can be prepared free of refractory ceramic fibers that are respirable but durable in a physiological medium. The compositions are typically in the form of a sheet material or a paste and can be used, for example, as a protective packing material around the pollution control element or as an insulating material in the end cone region in a pollution control device. Sheet materials formed from the compositions have an area of a X-Y plane that decrease less than about 6 percent when heated to about 900null C.

    摘要: Small crystals are made by mixing a solution of a desired substance with an anti-solvent in a fluidic vortex mixer in which the residence time is less than 1 s, for example 10 ms. The liquid within the fluidic vortex mixer (12) is subjected to high intensity ultrasound from a transducer (20, 22) in or on the wall of the mixer, or coupled to a pipe supplying liquid to the mixer. The solution very rapidly becomes supersaturated, and the ultrasound can induce a very large number of nuclei for crystal growth. Small crystals, for example less than 5 nullm, are formed that may be of a suitable sise for use in inhalers.
