Abstract:
The invention relates to novel polymers or oligomers containing at least sulfonite groups (P-(SO2)nX, X=1−(n=1), 2−(n=2) or 3−(n=3) valent metal cation or H+ or ammonium ion NR4+ wherein R=alkyl, aryl, H), which are obtained by completely or partially reducing polymers or oligomers containing at least SO2Y-groups (Y=F, Cl, Br, I, OR, NR2 (R=alkyl and/or aryl and/or H), N-imidazolyl, N-pyrazolyl) by means of suitable reducing agents in a suspension or in a solution form. The invention also relates to polymers and polymer(blend) membranes which are obtained by further reacting the obtained sulfinated polymers, especially by alkylation of the sulfinate groups with mono- di- or oligo functional electrophiles. The invention further relates to methods for producing the sulfinated polymers and for further reacting the sulfinated polymers with electrophiles by S-alkylation.
Abstract:
A hair wax product is made by a process, in which a solid wax composition is heated to melt or soften it and then foamed with a gas in a mixer that applies shear energy to it. The gas is preferably air or a non-reactive gas, such as nitrogen. The gas is introduced to the liquified or softened solid wax composition in a sufficient amount so that the density of the resulting hair wax product is less than or equal to 0.9 g/ml, preferably 0.6 to 0.8 g/ml. The hair wax product contains bubbles and/or pores having a size of from 0.0001 to 5 mm and has melting and softening properties such that rubbing it by hand is sufficient to remove a waxy portion from it and work the waxy portion into hair.
Abstract:
Abstract of the DisclosureCompositions, for example cosmetic compositions, comprising at least one organic polymer, such as a crosslinked organosoluble polymer, and a mixture of at least two solvents, one of which is volatile and incompatible with the polymer, and the other of which is nonvolatile and compatible with the polymer. These compositions make it possible to form on keratin materials a deposit whose volume increases over time, without the intervention of an external stimulus. These compositions can be, for example, mascaras, lipsticks or anti-wrinkIe formulas in the form of a cream or a foundation. The cosmetic treatment processes using these compositions.
Abstract:
Disclosed herein are compositions comprising, in an aqueous medium, such as in a physiologically acceptably aqueous medium, at least one surfactant, at least one ingredient chosen from cyclodextrins and derivatives thereof, and at least one crosslinked copolymer comprising at least one methacrylic acid and at least one C1-C4 alkyl acrylate unit, wherein the composition may further comprise at least one conditioner and the compositions are used as, for example, rinse-out products, such as for washing and/or conditioning keratinous materials. Also disclosed are methods of making these compositions, methods of treating keratinous material using the compositions, and the use of the at least one crosslinked copolymer comprising at least one methacrylic acid unit and at least one C1-C4 alkyl acrylate unit as an agent for suspending the complex formed by at least one ingredient chosen from cyclodextrins and derivatives thereof and at least one surfactant.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a depilatory patch comprising a layer of depilatory composition carried by a substrate. The depilatory patch is arranged, in use, to be applied to the skin of a user and left for a prescribed time period before being removed. The depilatory composition acts to degrade or destroy hair on the skin where the patch has been applied. The invention also extends to methods of manufacturing depilatory patches of the invention, and to depilatory methods using such patches.
Abstract:
FP-1 is a protein that is specifically expressed in the follicular papilla of the hair follicle. The nucleic acid and amino acid sequences of FP-1, as well as antibodies that specifically bind FP-1 are provided. In addition, methods of isolating follicular papilla cells and methods of modulating hair growth are also disclosed.
Abstract:
Topically applicable, anhydrous and physically/chemically stable pharmaceutical compositions useful for the treatment of disorders of the skin, notably psoriasis, contain a silicone agent; a therapeutically effect amount of a compound A selected from the group consisting of vitamin D or derivative thereof, solubilized in a solvent therefor; and a therapeutically effective amount of a compound B selected from the group consisting of the corticosteroids, also solubilized in a solvent therefor.
Abstract:
This invention provides a method of augmenting an epithelial mucosal barrier, by contacting the barrier with a topical composition. This invention also provides the topical composition. The topical composition comprises, dispersed or dissolved in a topically acceptable vehicle, at least one polymer containing either a repeat unit of structure 1 or a repeat unit of structure 2, or a mixture This method and composition are useful in improving mucosal barrier function by, for example, topical application to an exposed or injured epithelial surface or by coating a compromised mucosal barrier in, for example, inflammatory bowel disease.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a process for the production of marine invertebrate type V telopeptide containing collagen preparations from marine invertebrates, compositions containing preparations, and methods of using these preparations. The collagen preparation includes telopeptide containing and optionally invertebrate atelopeptide containing, type V fibrillar collagen. The present collagen preparations may be employed in a variety of products including for example, cosmetic, pharmacological, dental, and cell culture products.
