Abstract:
A first telephone connection from a first terminal to a second terminal is set up via a circuit-switched telephone network to send signaling from the second terminal to the first terminal via the first telephone connection, where the signaling signals the capability of the first terminal or of the second terminal to handle telephone data which are received via a data packet transmission network, or where the signaling contains connection data which relate to the availability of the signaling terminals in the data packet transmission network.
Abstract:
One of network classifications or line classifications is selected and used for one network function. A line classification selection server stores network function information including one or both of communication quality information of a network and billing information for each of network classifications of plural networks. The selection server receives a service start request from a service provider. The selection server refers to the network function information based on the network condition information included in the request, and selects a network classification satisfying the communication quality condition and/or the billing condition. The selection server transmits a server start request including service classification information and identification information of a user terminal to a 3PCC server of the selected network classification. The 3PCC server receives the request, and performs communication control for providing a communication service of the service classification information to designated user terminal.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method for implementing calling restrictions between communication networks includes a first step of defining call control parameters in a repository. A next step includes initiating a call from the first network via a gateway for a target identifier in the second network. A next step includes making a query to download a text record of the call control parameters from the repository. A next step includes downloading the set of call control parameters in a text record by the gateway. A next step includes restricting the call from the first network to the second network by the gateway in accordance with the set of call control parameters.
Abstract:
A telecommunications system determines a telecommunications service provider's routing preference for routing a call for a subscriber. The telecommunications system includes a storage that stores call routing data and a call routing service application for determining the routing preference using the call routing data. The call routing data includes an indicator that indicates when the subscriber subscribes to resold local switching services and when the subscriber subscribes to unbundled local switching services. The telecommunications system also includes a processor that executes the call routing service application, and that generates call routing instructions for routing the call according to the determined routing preference.
Abstract:
A method of selecting a suitable service for the delivery of a communication across an integrated network is disclosed. Before now, users had to select the service that best suited their needs at the time of each delivery. By providing a computer programmed to act as a purchasing agent with data indicating the desirability of stability in the network service (that data representing the price the user is prepared to pay for stability) an automatic selection of the service to be provided to the communication is enabled. An embodiment is described in which different degrees of stability are given to different content file deliveries in dependence on the importance attached to the recipient by a content provider. The invention could equally be used to provide an appropriate services for many different types of network traffic.
Abstract:
According to this invention, a digital key telephone system connected to an analog public network NW having a function of transmitting a ringing signal including identification information of a calling line through a subscriber line (CO line), accommodating a plurality of extension lines each connected to a digital key telephone (DKT) 2 or a standard telephone (STT) 4 as an extension terminal, and having a function of switching and connecting the subscriber line to the plurality of extension lines or the extension lines to each other includes a called party storage means storing, in advance, information representing the correlation between the calling line and the extension terminals 2 and 4 as a called terminal. When a ringing signal arrives from the analog communication network NW, calling line identification information (caller ID) contained in the ringing signal is detected by a calling line identification information interface unit (RCIU) 12. A control unit (RCTU) 16 determines the called extension terminal on the basis of the detected caller ID and the information stored in the storage means, so the extension terminal receives the call from the digital key telephone interface unit (RDKU) 13 or a standard telephone interface unit (RSTU) 15.
Abstract:
A telecommunications method and routing system determines a routing preference and routing of a call from a calling party to a called party for a local service provider. The system includes a service control point that receives a signal from a switch. The switch recognizes at least one of a calling party number and a dialed number that indicates a type of service. The service control point determines the routing preference of the local service provider for the call based upon the type of service and a local service provider identifier associated with one of the recognized calling party number and dialed number.
Abstract:
A local routing system is provided for selectively routing traffic in a telecommunications network according to a local service provider's preferences. The local service provider provides service for telephone lines acquired from a local exchange carrier. The telecommunications network supports an originator subscribing to the local service provider. The originator initiates a trigger when originating a call to a destination by dialing a number. The local routing system includes a classifier, a determiner, and a router. The classifier analyzes the dialed number and categorizes the call into one of several predetermined classes of traffic. The determiner determines whether the local service provider has a routing preference for the class of traffic into which the classifier has placed the call. The router routes the traffic to the destination according to the local service provider's routing preference if a routing preference exists for the class of traffic into which the classifier placed the call, and generates billing if appropriate. The predetermined traffic can be operator assistance traffic, directory assistance traffic, and local traffic.

Abstract:
A method and system for dynamic utilization of the available bandwidth on existing ISDN and other broadband links is disclosed. In a first preferred embodiment, an efficient link-utilization system comprises first and second telecommunication nodes connected by one or more ISDN links or other broadband connections. When a caller desires to place a call from a communication device served by the first telecommunication node to a communication device served by the second telecommunication node, the first telecommunication node determines whether an existing broadband link connecting the first and second telecommunication nodes has sufficient available bandwidth to carry the call in compressed form from the calling communication device to the called communication device. If such an existing telephonic link is identified, the first telecommunications node compresses the transmission received from the caller and transmits the compressed transmission to the second telecommunications node via the available bandwidth on the existing telephonic link. The second telecommunications node decompresses the transmission and transmits the decompressed transmission to the called party. The disclosed efficient link utilization system may be employed by node operators to provide distinct classes of service to their customers, including guaranteed connection service and non-guaranteed connection service. In additional preferred embodiments, the principles of the invention are extended to multiple node arrangements.
