Abstract:
A method of curing a composite part, including placing an uncured composite part on a mandrel, placing a plurality of expandable pellets on the uncured composite part, expanding the plurality of expandable pellets, applying a positive pressure to the uncured composite part, and curing the uncured composite part.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method for detecting one or more target molecules includes a hydrophobic substrate, and a sensor. The sensor includes two or more electrodes disposed on the hydrophobic substrate and separated from one another by a gap, a plurality of nanostructures formed on or within an upper surface of each electrode, a plurality of binding molecules attached to the plurality of nanostructures, wherein the plurality of binding molecules are configured to bind with the one or more target molecules, and wherein the upper surface of each electrode and the plurality of nanostructures are hydrophilic, and may further detect two or more analytes with two or more sensors that detect two or more different modalities, such as, electrical, optical fluorescence, optical resonance, magnetic detection, or acoustic waves.
Abstract:
Methods for manufacturing cushioning elements for sports apparel are described. A method is provided for manufacturing a cushioning element for sports apparel from randomly arranged particles of an expanded material. The method includes positioning a functional element within a mold and loading the mold with the particles of the expanded material, wherein the loading occurs through at least two openings within the mold and/or wherein the loading occurs between different movable parts of the mold.
Abstract:
A foamed, opacifying element has a substrate with opposing planar surfaces and a foamed opacifying layer disposed on one opposing surface. The foamed opacifying layer contains (a) 0.1-80 weight % of nonporous polymeric particles; (b′) 10-80 weight % of a matrix material derived from a (b) binder material having a glass transition temperature of less than 40° C.; (c) 0.0001-50 weight % of certain additives; (d) less than 5 weight % of water; and (e) at least 0.002 weight % of an opacifying colorant different from all of the (c) additives. Foamable and foamed aqueous compositions can be used to provide these foamed, opacifying elements for use as light-blocking window shades, curtains, or other materials. These light-blocking articles can also have a printable outer surface that accepts ink for making printed images that are not observable from the opposite surface.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a composition based on polylactic acid, comprising polylactic acid or a compound derived therefrom, and one or more additives, wherein polymethylmethacrylate is used as at least one additive. The amount of poly-methylmethacrylate is preferably at least 5 wt %, based on the total amount of polylactic acid or a compound derived therefrom, based on weight, in the final composition.
Abstract:
A formed body with a cavity structure for the sound and/or heat insulation of buildings. The formed body has a cavity structure and has pre-foamed polystyrene particles compressed in a mould or on a conveyor belt system under the influence of pressure and/or heat. The formed body has a communicating cavity volume and the communicating cavity volume has a volume fraction that amounts to 5 to 30 vol. %, preferably 10 to 25 vol. %, particularly 15 to 20 vol. %, referred to the total volume of the formed body, and comprising at least part of the pre-foamed polystyrene particles firmly enclosed in a cured organic or inorganic binder that is used for coating at least part of the polystyrene particles prior to their compression in a mould or on a conveyor belt system.
Abstract:
Polymer foams, including acrylic foams, comprising low amounts of high-surface-area silica are described. Methods of preparing such foams and articles comprising such foams are also described.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a cellulosic particle body comprising interconnected cellulosic small particles with small interparticle spaces and to a method of producing said cellulosic particle body which comprises dispersing cellulosic small particles in an alkaline medium and contacting the resulting suspension with a coagulating solution. In this specification, the above technology will be referred to as the first invention.
