The handling element comprises a first handling portion able to guide the introduction of the rivet in a setting tool, and a second handling portion able to transmit a torque, the two handling portions being separated by blocking portion able to limit an axial movement of the rivet in a setting tool.A setting nose for installing such a rivet, and a setting method are also described. These in particular are applicable to the assembly of aircraft structures.

    摘要: A method and an apparatus for the attachment of a fastener element to a component, for example a sheet metal part, wherein the fastener element is a nut element and has an axis of symmetry, a head part having a contact surface which enters into contact with the component, a threaded bore and also at least one undercut which receives the material of the component, and wherein the material of the component is pressed against the contact surface and into the undercut by means of a first tool having a die button shape matching the design of the nut element. A local force is exerted on the head part of the nut element or onto the tool to the side of the axis of symmetry and is moved circularly around the axis of symmetry while simultaneously carrying out a relative feed movement between the tool and the nut element between which the component is arranged in order to press the material of the component into the undercut.

A controller of the machine has a linear encoder for detecting the axial position of the piston shaft, an electric hydraulic servo valve provided in a hydraulic circuit between the hydraulic power source and the hydraulic cylinder, a machining data input unit for inputting machining data of the work rivet into a programmable control unit. The control unit receives the output of the linear encoder and the input machining data and controlling the hydraulic cylinder via the electric/hydraulic servo valve based on the machining data and the output of the encoder.

Riveting apparatus comprises a body for attachment to a pressing head, a rotary member journalled in the body and means for driving the rotary member during a pressing operation, a shaft journalled in the rotary member for rotation about an axis eccentric thereto and a pinion fixed to the shaft, an internally toothed gear fixed to said body and meshing with the pinion, the gear ratio between the two being such that points on the pinion describe hypocycloids intersecting the axis of the rotary member, a central peg on the pinion, a tool-holder mounted for universal movement on the body and oscillatable relatively to the axis thereof by means of said peg, and a rivet-set detachably mounted in the holder. A cylindrical body 2 is clamped to the head 1 of a press which has a rotary driving shaft 9 with a rectangular driving dog 8 at its lower end. A sleeve 6 is journalled in the body and has an eccentric bore through which passes a shaft 10. The dog 8 engages a slot in the end of the sleeve. To the lower end of the shaft 10 is secured a pinion 11 which meshes with an internally toothed ring 13 which is locked to the body 2. The ratio between the pinion and ring is 41 : 50. A peg 17 projects from the face of the pinion and is eccentric to the axis of the pinion. At the free end of the peg is a ball 18 which forms a universal joint with a shell 20 secured in a tool-holder 19. A compression spring 22 maintains the toolholder in contact with a pressure ring 14, both the tool-holder and the pressure ring having spherical faces. A rivet-set 23 is held in the tool-holder by a magnet 24.
