Abstract: Systems comprising: an analyte sensor for providing an analyte signal representative of an analyte level; a controller in data communication with the analyte sensor and programmed to provide a recommended medication dose based on the analyte level and a medication type, the controller comprising a user interface for inputting the medication type; and a model-based safety mechanism integrated with the controller for evaluating the recommended medication dose. Wherein the model-based safety mechanism overrides the recommended medication dose and provides a safety medication dose when the model-based safety mechanism detects a risk of insulin deprivation.

Abstract: A syringe pump includes a lead screw, a motor, and a sliding block assembly. The lead screw has threads and the motor is coupled to the lead screw to rotate it. The half-nut housing has a half nut and a barrel cam. The half nut is disposed within the half-nut housing. The half nut has half-nut threads at an end adjacent to the lead screw void. The half nut engages or disengages with the threads of the lead screw. The half nut includes a half-nut cam-follower surface and a half nut slot. The barrel cam is disposed within the half-nut housing and engages with the half-nut cam-follower surface. The barrel cam includes a pin to fit within the half nut slot such that the barrel cam rotates between a first position and a second position to actuate the half nut between the engagement position and the disengagement position, respectively.

Abstract: A method of managing insulin includes receiving blood glucose measurements on a computing device from a glucometer. The blood glucose measurements are separated by a time interval. The method includes determining, by the computing device, an insulin dose rate based on the blood glucose measurements and determining a blood glucose drop rate based on the blood glucose measurements and the time interval. The method also includes determining a blood glucose percentage drop based on the blood glucose measurements. The method includes decreasing the time interval between blood glucose measurements by the glucometer when the blood glucose drop rate is greater than a threshold drop rate, and decreasing the time interval between blood glucose measurements by the glucometer when the blood glucose percentage drop is greater than a threshold percentage drop.

Abstract: Fluid path assemblies for drug delivery devices and methods of establishing a fluid flow path for drug delivery devices are described that include a needle shield valve member that couples to a reservoir having a needle mounted thereto. The needle shield valve member includes an internal barrier that protects the needle and/or contains a drug within the reservoir until activation of the drug delivery device. Upon activation, there is relative movement between the reservoir and needle shield valve member until the needle pierces the barrier to establish a fluid flow path from the reservoir through the needle shield valve member.

Abstract: A combination respiratory therapy management system creates a combined respiratory therapy prescription that can be executed by a combined respiratory therapy device to provide multiple coordinated respiratory therapies to a patient. The system can update the combined respiratory therapy prescription and implement the updates while the combined respiratory therapy device is in use. An integrated graphical user interface provides the patient and clinician with customization options and quick access to preselected operations of the combined respiratory therapy device. Additional features of the system enable remote access and control of the combination respiratory therapy device by remote clinicians.

Abstract: An inhaler device for pulmonary delivery of at least one substance from a drug dose cartridge to an inhaling user, including: a first conduit for conducting a carrier airflow to a proximal opening of a mouthpiece for use by the user, a holder configured to position the dose cartridge within the carrier airflow; and a second conduit for conducting a shunting airflow to the mouthpiece without passing through the dose cartridge position. In some embodiments, a controller connected to a valve controls a rate of carrier airflow, for example by controlling the shunting airflow, based on a sensor indication of airflow rate and a target airflow profile.
