摘要: Devices and systems have a sensor probe configured to measure tissue oxygen saturation in the intestine or mesentery. The devices and systems can determine the oxygenation state of the entire thickness of the intestine or mesentery. Embodiments of the invention also include methods for inducing a temporary ischemic period in an intestine or mesentery tissue and analyzing changes in oxygen saturation of the tissue during the temporary ischemic period or during a recovery phase. The devices, systems, and methods can be applied in diagnosing intestinal ischemia in a patient, as well as in monitoring tissue oxygen saturation of the intestine or mesentery during or after a surgical procedure.

摘要: A method of segmenting a bowel includes receiving patient imaging comprising one or more voxels; determining a lumen indicator based on the patient imaging; representing the one or more voxels within a distance of the lumen indicator as one or more feature vectors; generating, based on the one or more feature vectors, a cluster comprising at least one of the one or move voxels; binarizing the cluster into one or more groups based on a threshold value; and generating a bowel segment model based at least on the cluster.

摘要: Systems and methods are provided for monitoring a user having a chronic gastrointestinal indication. A questionnaire regarding a plurality of conditions is provided on a repeating basis. Each such condition at least partly arises from the gastrointestinal indication. Questionnaire questions are each associated with a corresponding condition and provide an affordance that allows the user to select between low and high values in accordance with user association with the condition. Responses are stored in a data store associated with the user. A user requested report comprising a graphical quality of life measure of the user is provided based upon temporal questionnaire answers. Questionnaire information is communicated to a remote device for medical practitioner evaluation and computation of a temporal overall quality of life score based on a plurality of component quality of life scores, each of which is associated with a condition in the plurality of conditions.

摘要: Embodiments provide devices, systems and methods for measuring a gastric emptying (GE) parameter (GEP). Many embodiments provide a swallowable capsule having three electrodes one covered by a coating which remains in the stomach but is degraded in the small intestine (SI). The electrodes are coupled to circuitry such that when the capsule is in the stomach, current flow occurs between the first two electrodes generating a first signal and in the SI current flow occurs between the second and now uncovered third electrode generating a second signal. These two signals can be transmitted and analyzed externally or by an internal controller to determine a GEP e.g., GE time. The patient may wear an external device configured to receive and analyze the signals to determine GE time. Embodiments of the invention may be used to diagnose gastroparesis and provide patient's information on when to eat meals or administer insulin after eating.

摘要: A method of determination of a cause of hemorrhoids in a subject includes a determination of the presence of hemorrhoids in the subject by visual inspection, and by one or more of a non-invasive medical imaging procedure and/or an intra-vascular visualization procedure, determining if there is an obstruction or occlusion in an iliac vein of the subject, and if so, determining that the hemorrhoids were caused by such obstruction or occlusion. If the obstruction or occlusion are determined to be the cause of the hemorrhoids, a procedure for compressing the obstruction or occlusion in the iliac vein of the subject, such as by angioplasty or stenting, is performed. After an appropriate time period, changes to the hemorrhoids in the subject are determined by a subsequent visual inspection.

摘要: A method for performing a medical procedure in an intestine of a patient is provided. The method comprises providing a system comprising: a catheter for insertion into the intestine, the catheter comprising: an elongate shaft comprising a distal portion; and a functional assembly positioned on the shaft distal portion and comprising at least one treatment element. The catheter is introduced into the patient, and target tissue is treated with the at least one treatment element. The target tissue comprises mucosal tissue of the small intestine, and the medical procedure can be configured to treat polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS).
