A coating composition is provided comprising (A) 1-50 parts by weight of surface-treated titanium oxide comprising core/shell type microparticles each consisting of a titanium oxide core and a silicon oxide shell, which are treated with two surface treating components having formula (I): R1Si(OR2)3 and formula (II): (R3R42Si)2NH, (B) 100 parts by weight of a vinyl copolymer obtained from copolymerization of (b-1) an alkoxysilyl-containing vinyl monomer, (b-2) a UV-absorbing vinyl monomer, and (b-3) another monomer, and (C) a solvent. A cured film of the composition has improved mar resistance and UV shielding while maintaining visible light transparency.

By combing the (meth)acrylic functional UV absorber with various binder precursors such as photo-curable multifunctional (meth)acrylate, there are obtained coating compositions having improved crosslinking density, UV absorbing capacity, anti-bleeding property, and shelf stability.

An inorganic particle-polysiloxane composite comprising inorganic particles having a polysiloxane containing SiR2R3O2/2 and SiR4R5R6O1/2 units grafted to their surface is prepared without mechanical treatment. The inorganic particles have an average particle size of 1-200 nm, the polysiloxane may be bonded to the inorganic particle surface via a siloxane coating layer containing SiR1O3/2 units, and a total of siloxane constituents is 20-20,000 pbw per 100 pbw of the inorganic particles. R1 to R5 are H, alkyl, alkenyl, aryl or dimethylsiloxy group, and R6 is H, alkyl, alkenyl, aryl, dimethylsiloxy, alkoxy or hydroxyl group. The inorganic particle-polysiloxane composite is dispersible in silicone oil, and so a transparent functional silicone material is obtained.

An inorganic particle/siloxane composite which comprises a product of cohydrolysis and cocondensation of (A) at least one compound or product selected from among silicon compounds represented by general formulae (1) to (4) and products of partial hydrolysis and condensation thereof and (B) inorganic particles which, when examined by the dynamic light scattering method, give a volume-based particle diameter distribution that has a 50%-cumulation particle diameter (D50) of 3-100 nm, wherein the number of silicon atoms derived from the silicon compound represented by general formula (2) is 20 mol % or more of the number of all the silicon atoms in the component (A). The component (B) is contained in an amount of 65 mass % or less with respect to the whole product of cohydrolysis and cocondensation. The inorganic particle/siloxane composite has satisfactory compatibility with silicone materials although containing substantially no volatile organic solvent.
