    摘要: Articles for use with security documents are disclosed which include planchettes and security threads that comprise a plastic substrate having at least one security feature employing soft magnetic metal located thereon. Preferred articles comprise at least two security features where a first security feature is made up of an optionally repeating pattern of soft magnetic metal adapted to generate a signal or a series of signals in an interrogation field applied by a detection system for remote detecting and optionally for remote reading or identifying the article. A second security feature is a public security feature that comprises magnetic and/or non-magnetic metal formed indicia. The first and second security features of this invention can be coextensive features.

    摘要: A method of synthesizing fused ring pyridines (annulated) by co-oligomerization of .alpha.,.omega.-diynes with about molar equivalents of nitriles using a Co.sup.+1 catalyst preferably cyclopentadienyl cobalt dicarbonyl. Additionally, new compounds of tricyclic quinolizine-4-ones were produced where excess cyanoacetic ester starting materials were utilized (about 2:1 equivalent nitriles:diyne). The results with the catalyst employed indicated a stepwise mechanism in which cobalt(I) catalyst first forms a metallocycle intermediate derived from the bisacetylene. This cobalt(III) intermediate reacts preferentially with nitriles to give the product annulated pyridines in good yield. Generally, preferred conditions indicated roughly molar equivalents of reactants with no substantial excess of either reactant for the bicyclic compounds. Preferred conditions include a moderate temperature (solvent reflux temperature) and a preferred solvent such as BTX-type solvent (xylene) or an alkane (N-octane) under an inert blanket (nitrogen) for a multi-day period.

    摘要: The present invention relates to methods for the formation of ceramic bodies. Methods of the invention involve processing ceramic-forming compositions to form an integrally self-supporting or stabilized structure, which may then be sintered to give the full-density ceramic product. Methods of the invention may also involve densification of the ceramic body. In one set of embodiments, the volume of the integrally self-supporting structure is reduced by at least 20%. The present invention may produce ceramic bodies having greater strength and durability, since the ceramic-forming compositions may be low in viscosity and may be homogeneously blended, decreasing the possibility for defects.

    摘要: An extension indicator is provided for determining a predetermined extension applied to an extensibly deformable article such as medical bandage used in compression therapy. The indicator includes first (420) and second (430) co-operating members, each adapted to be secured to an extensibly deformable article (440). One of the members is more extensible than the other and each member (420, 430) bears visual indicia (450, 460, 470) which upon extension of the more extensible member, are adapted to align with each other to indicate a predetermined extension of the more extensible member.
