Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on a computer storage medium, for reducing latency in network communications and data presentation. In one aspect, a user session is initiated in which data related to an account is presented to the user. A user group to which the given user has been assigned is identified. A first dataset related to the account is selected based on the user group. A second dataset related to the account is selected based on types of data previously requested by various other users in the user group. A user interface for the account is updated to present at least a portion of the first dataset. Latency in updating the user interface is reduced when presenting additional portions of the first dataset or the second dataset by providing, to the client device, the second dataset prior to receiving a request for the second dataset.

Abstract: A system and method for distributing content in an adaptive bitrate (ABR) streaming network. In one embodiment, an origin server receives an initial content request from a client device for a particular content, the client device operative with an ABR streaming media player. Depending on the information received in the initial content request, a local cache proximate to the client device requesting the particular content is located. The requested is then pushed to the local cache, whereupon a response message is generated to the client device, responsive to the initial content request, the response message including location information of the particular content with respect to the local cache.

Abstract: The presentation of content items within a hosting item is typically performed by on-demand retrieval of the content item from a content server. However, on-demand retrieval may impose an undesirable delay in the presentation of the content; may spontaneously alter the layout of the hosting item; and/or may involve an expedient but unsophisticated selection among the content items of a content store (e.g., random selection), resulting in the presentation of irrelevant and/or redundant content. Instead, a device may prefetch content items into a content cache, such that when a user later requests to view a hosting item, the device may insert a content item selected from the content cache. The device may also notify the content server when a content item has been presented to the user; by marking the content item as such, the content server may provide additional, fresh content for the device content cache.

The method includes sending random packets of the plurality of data files to at least one destination based on the popularities. The method may include ranking the plurality of data files from a most popular data file to a least popular data file using the determined popularities. The method may include selecting, for each data file, a number of random packets based on the ranking, wherein the sending sends the selected number of random packets for each data file.

Abstract: Embodiments described herein relate to an improved technique for preemptive client application request processing based on observed use access patterns and/or models. The system includes a framework engine operable to trace sequences of requests to one or more service provider applications, including which particular client requests are likely to be followed by other particular client requests for each service. Based on the resulting traces, the framework can determine the probability of a particular request B following another particular request A. When request A is retrieved from the service provider application, and when the probability is high enough (e.g. >50%) that request B will follow request A in the sequence of requests, the framework is operable to simulate request B in a background process and provide a response to request B from a local memory storage.

Abstract: Systems and techniques for aggregation, display, and sharing of data. Graphic items representing data objects identified by a data package may be displayed on timelines. Each timeline may be associated with a respective class of data, and each graphic item displayed on a respective timeline may represent one or more of the data objects in the class associated with the respective timeline. A prediction may be made regarding which data will be displayed in the near future. A pre-fetch request may be generated, and the predicted data may be retrieved from a remote server and stored in a local data cache before the user requests that the predicted data be displayed.

Abstract: The disclosed subject matter includes systems, methods, and computer readable medium for automatically updating data source objects (DSO). First and second DSO can be created and mapped to first and second data, respectively. A third DSO can be created and mapped to the first subset of the first stored data by filtering the first stored data mapped to the first DSO with the second stored data mapped to the second DSO. A listener can be created for the third DSO to detect changes to the first DSO. Listener can receive notification of a change to the first DSO. the mapping of the third DSO can be updated by applying the change. A remapping can be requested of the third DSO to a second subset of first stored data by filtering the first stored data mapped to the first DSO with the second stored data mapped to the second DSO.

In an embodiment, the method involves identifying a networked application having a client portion and a server portion coupled to the client portion over a network characterized by a first latency, identifying a database used to store activity related to the networked application is identified, identifying a request-response context of the networked application, using the request-response context to predict requests the networked application is likely to make using the database, using the request-response context to predict responses to the requests, creating a cache having the requests and/or the responses stored therein, and providing the cache to a predictive cache engine coupled to the client portion of the networked application by a computer-readable medium that has a second latency less than the first latency.
