Abstract: Embodiments of a machine-type communication (MTC) User Equipment (UE) and methods for configuring a MTC UE using an evolved Node B (eNB) are generally described herein. A method for configuring a UE for communication performed by circuitry of an evolved Node B (eNB) may include broadcasting, from the eNB, a physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) transmission on a licensed band, transmitting, from the eNB to the UE, a physical broadcast channel (PBCH) transmission multiplexed with a machine-type communication (MTC) PBCH (M-PBCH) transmission, the M-PBCH transmission including a MTC master information block (M-MIB) in a MTC region of the licensed band, wherein the MTC region includes a subset of frequencies of the licensed band, and transmitting, from the eNB to the UE, a first data transmission on the MTC region in a downlink.

Abstract: Technology for an eNodeB operable to apply scrambling to coded bits transported via a physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH) to a user equipment (UE) is disclosed. The eNodeB can generate a code word that comprises coded bits for transmission to the UE. The UE can be a bandwidth-reduced low complexity (BL) UE or a coverage enhancement (CF) UE. The eNodeB can identify, for the BL UE or the CF UE, a scrambling sequence to be applied to the coded bits. The scrambling sequence can be initialized using a defined initialization value (cinit). The eNodeB can apply the scrambling sequence with the defined initialization value to the coded bits to obtain scrambled coded bits. The eNodeB can encode the scrambled coded bits for transmission to the UE via the PDSCH.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and storage media for monitoring enhanced physical downlink control channel (EPDCCH)-physical resource block (PRB) sets are described. In embodiments, an apparatus may determine a control channel configuration that indicates one or more EPDCCH-PRB sets to be monitored in a desired subframe. The apparatus may determine a control channel configuration that indicates an EPDCCH to be monitored for one or more EPDCCH transmissions in a non-UE-specific search space (SS) in one or more subframes. The apparatus may determine a control channel configuration that indicates a non-UE-specific search space (SS) to monitor for EPDCCH transmissions using one or more aggregation levels. The apparatus may monitor the EPDCCH according to one or more of the control channel configurations. Other embodiments may be described and/or claimed.

In some embodiments, the UE receives configuration information for a D2D discovery resource pool of a cell. The configuration information includes an indication that the D2D discovery resource pool has been logically divided into a plurality of sub-discovery resource pools. The UE performs an initial transmission of a discovery signal in a discovery period using a single D2D discovery resource from a first sub-discovery resource pool of the plurality of sub-discovery resource pools. The UE performs a number of additional transmissions of the discovery signal in the discovery period using additional D2D discovery resources from sub-discovery resource pools of the plurality of sub-discovery resource pools other than the first sub-discovery resource pool. Other apparatuses and methods are also described.

Abstract: Systems, apparatus, user equipment (UE), evolved node B(eNB), and methods are described for machine-type communications (MTC) with early termination of repeated transmissions. In MTC implementations with narrow bandwidth, significant numbers of retransmissions may be scheduled based on channel quality measurements. If data is successfully decoded at a receiving device while a significant number of retransmissions remain, system resources are wasted. Embodiments described herein thus use downlink control messaging or intermediate hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) messaging for early termination of repeated messages.

Abstract: Sub-band allocation techniques for reduced-bandwidth machine-type communication (MTC) devices are described. In one embodiment, for example, user equipment (UE) may comprise logic, at least a portion of which is in hardware, the logic to identify a machine-type communication (MTC) sub-band allocation based on received MTC sub-band allocation information, the MTC sub-band allocation to comprise an allocation of a plurality of subcarriers to an MTC sub-band of a system bandwidth of a serving cell of the UE, the MTC sub-band allocation to define at least one MTC direct current (DC) subcarrier among the plurality of subcarriers, and a radio interface to receive a transmission via the MTC sub-band according to the MTC sub-band allocation. Abstract: Described is an Evolved Node-B (eNB) comprising one or more processors to generate a first transmission for a first Cellular Internet-of-Things (CIoT) device and a second transmission for a second CIoT device. The first transmission may be generated for a first Narrowband (NB) channel, and the second transmission may be generated for a second NB channel. The first and second transmissions may include the same set of system information. Also described is a CIoT device comprising one or more processors to to process a System Information (SI) transmission on one of a plurality of NB channels, and to process and extract information from a PSS and/or SSS transmission on a set of subcarriers corresponding to a set of frequency bands. The plurality of NB channels are within a wireless communication system bandwidth, and at least two of the plurality of NB channels correspond to portions of the wireless communication system bandwidth outside the set of frequency bands.
