In a process for the dehydrogenation of cyclohexanone to produce phenol, cyclohexanone is contacted in a reaction zone under dehydrogenation conditions with a dehydrogenation catalyst comprising (i) a support comprising silica; and (ii) a dehydrogenation component comprising at least one metal selected from Group 10 of Periodic Table of Elements. Contact of the dehydrogenation catalyst with the cyclohexanone is then terminated and the dehydrogenation catalyst is contacted with an inert gas and/or hydrogen at a temperature of at least 300° C. Contact of the dehydrogenation catalyst with additional cyclohexanone is subsequently reestablished.

Defect control provided by the present invention allows for fabrication and processing of materials and/or structures having a selected abundance, spatial distribution and/or concentration depth profile of one or more types of defects in a material, such as vacancies and/or interstitials in a crystalline material. Methods of the invention are useful for processing materials by controlling defects to access beneficial physical, optical, chemical and/or electronic properties.

This invention provides a catalyst composition for preparing hydroxylamine, which comprises palladium, a platinum compound, a germanium compound and a carrier, wherein a halogen concentration of the composition is no more than 10 ppm. The catalyst composition is prevented from poisoning by halogens, and therefore the catalyst composition has high selectivity and catalytic activity. Further, the weight ratio of palladium and platinum in the catalyst composition ranges from 100:1 to 1000:1, such that the catalyst composition can be used to solve the commonly observed problem, i.e., decreased selectivity due to the excessive amount of platinum.
