Abstract:
A tool (2, 102, 202) is constructed from a plurality of tessellating elements (34, 134, 234) to form a mandrel for the deposition of composite fibres.
Abstract:
Systems and processes that integrate thermoplastic and shape memory alloy materials to form an adaptive composite structure capable of changing its shape. For example, the adaptive composite structure may be designed to serve as a multifunctional adaptive wing flight control surface. Other applications for such adaptive composite structures include in variable area fan nozzles, winglets, fairings, elevators, rudders, or other aircraft components having an aerodynamic surface whose shape is preferably controllable. The material systems can be integrated by means of overbraiding (interwoven) with tows of both thermoplastic and shape memory alloy materials or separate layers of each material can be consolidated (e.g., using induction heating) to make a flight control surface that does not require separate actuation.
Abstract:
A balloon wrapping apparatus and a balloon wrapping method are disclosed by which a balloon can be wrapped appropriately. The balloon wrapping apparatus for wrapping a balloon of a balloon catheter provided with the balloon at a distal portion of an elongated shaft includes: a pleating section that forms the balloon with wing shapes projecting in radial directions; a folding section that includes a plurality of blades aligned in a circumferential direction, and that folds the wing shapes formed in the balloon along the circumferential direction by moving rotationally the blades; and a rotational support portion that supports a portion of the shaft which portion is on a proximal side of the balloon, and that rotates the shaft in a direction opposite to a rotary movement direction of the blades in a state in which the balloon is positioned in relation to the folding section.
Abstract:
A composite acoustic liner has a septumized cellular core. Septa are installed in the core as the individual core cells are being formed. Individual tools are used to both form the cells of the core and index the septa within the cells. The septa and the cellular core are cocured.
Abstract:
A method of and apparatus for forming one or more flanges or formations, which may conveniently be inwardly facing, on or in a hollow continuously wound structural member, such as a hollow pole, the method including the steps of providing a tapered mandrel on which to continuously wind a loop of filament or filaments to form a hollow structural member, providing an end-forming plate at at least one end of the mandrel, placing one or more formers on the outside of the mandrel adjacent to and spaced from the or each end plate by a required amount to form one or more flanges when the member has been fully wound and set within a resin, and subsequently removing the continuously wound structural member from the mandrel.
Abstract:
A method of bonding a device wafer to a carrier wafer includes disposing a first adhesive over a central portion of a carrier wafer, the first adhesive having a first glass transition temperature, disposing a second adhesive over a peripheral portion of the carrier wafer, the second adhesive having a second glass transition temperature greater than the first glass transition temperature, and bonding the first adhesive to an active front side of the device wafer and the second adhesive to a peripheral portion of the front side of the device wafer. Related assemblies may be used in such methods.
Abstract:
An impregnation mandrel for production of gas turbine casings made from composite material, the mandrel including: an annular wall with a profile of an outer surface that corresponds to that of an internal surface of the casing to be produced; two side plates, with profiles that correspond to those of external casing flanges to be produced; and a removable device for clamping a layer having a fibrous texture, which is wound around the mandrel.
Abstract:
A winding machine for winding a fiber texture onto an impregnation mandrel, includes: a take-up mandrel for storing and unwinding a fiber texture, the take-up mandrel having a substantially horizontal axis of rotation; an impregnation mandrel for receiving superposed layers of the fiber texture unwound from the take-up mandrel, the impregnation mandrel having an axis of rotation that is substantially horizontal and parallel to the axis of rotation of the take-up mandrel; a camera directed towards the fiber texture and the impregnation mandrel to examine the passage of warp tracer yarns and weft tracer yarns present in the fiber texture; an image-analysis module for determining the positions of the intersections of warp tracer yarns with the successive weft tracer yarns and comparing these determined positions with corresponding positions for the intersections of reference warp and weft tracer yarns, and determining an offset value for the fiber texture for each of these intersections; electric motors for driving the mandrels in rotation about their respective axes of rotation; and a control unit for controlling the electric motors for driving rotation of the mandrels.
Abstract:
A mandrel or core mold is used in the manufacture of composite products. The current invention avoids the disadvantages of plaster mandrels by making mandrels or core molds composed of aggregate with a dual binder system. This system produces a mold with high green strength, high dry strength, and the ability to be disintegrated from a finished composite product. The cross-linked polyvinylpyrrolidone, poly-polyvinylpyrrolidone, of this invention provides many benefits and advantages.
Abstract:
An actuating system of sectors of a device for producing an airplane fuselage in which a lamination mandrel includes a plurality of sectors that are angularly spaced about an axis and mobile between an expanded lamination position and a contracted dissembled position. Each sector has screw-nut screw type actuating system in which a threaded element is rotated about the axis by a motor. The threaded element includes an internal shaft made of a first material extending along the axis, an external tubular portion made of a second material that is mounted axially on the shaft and constraint element arranged between the internal shaft and the external tubular portion to prevent angular displacement of the external tubular portion with respect to the internal shaft and allow a linear sliding of the external tubular portion with respect to the internal shaft.
