摘要: A catheter shaft is produced by forming a first polymeric layer onto a flexible inner core while maintaining the inner core in a solid state, and solidifying the first polymeric layer, wherein the solidified first polymeric layer fails to bond with the inner core and is slidable thereon upon flexion of the shaft. A second polymeric layer may be formed over the first polymeric layer, and is slidable thereon when the shaft bends.

The end portion (30) comprises an outer surface, and a given type of steel comprising carbon (C) in 0.07 to 0.15% by mass, silicon (Si) in 0.50 to 1.00% by mass, manganese (Mn) in 5.0 to 7.5% by mass, phosphorus (P) in 0 to 0.030% by mass, sulfur (S) in less than or equal to 0.015% by mass, chromium (Cr) in 17.5 to 19.5% by mass, nickel (Ni) in 6.5 to 8.5% by mass, and nitrogen (N) in 0.20 to 0.30% by mass. The method further comprises establishing an electrochemical reaction to remove material from the outer surface of the end portion (30), and thereby providing a needle cannula (100) with a tapered end portion.

摘要: The present invention relates to a catheter system having a reinforced guidewire shaft and a method of manufacturing a reinforced catheter shaft. In particular, the present invention relates to a catheter shaft having two or more polymer layers and a reinforcement layer that is comprised of braids or a coil or combination thereof. The braided reinforcement layer may have a constant picks per inch (PPI) between braids or a variable PPI between braids. Similarly, the coiled reinforcement layer may have a constant pitch space between coils or a variable pitch space between coils. The reinforced catheter shaft may be manufactured by a continuous reel-to-reel process using liquid polymers that are heat-hardened or by a discrete process using extruded tube that is shrunk with heat.

The catheter includes an elongated tube shaped shaft. The shaft has an inner layer having a lumen along a longitudinal direction, an outer layer covering an outer peripheral side of the inner layer, and a reinforcement body disposed on the outer peripheral side of the inner layer. The outer layer has a distal outer layer on a distal end portion of the shaft, an intermediate outer layer proximal to the distal outer layer, and a proximal outer layer proximal to the intermediate outer layer. The intermediate outer layer is more flexible and thicker than the proximal outer layer, and a distal end of the reinforcement body is located proximal to a distal end of the intermediate outer layer.
