Abstract:
In certain embodiments, an apparatus includes a control valve for regulating fuel flow. The apparatus can include a burner and a valve assembly. In some embodiments, the valve assembly includes a housing, which can define a first fuel input for receiving a first fuel from a first fuel source and a second fuel input for receiving a second fuel from a second fuel source. The housing can define a first fuel output for directing fuel toward the control valve, and can define a third fuel input for receiving a portion of either the first fuel or the second fuel from the control valve. The housing can define a first egress flow path and a second egress flow path, each for directing fuel to the burner. In certain embodiments, the apparatus includes a valve body configured to selectively permit fluid communication between the first and second inputs and the output and between the third input and the egress flow paths.
Abstract:
Methods and devices for determining the concentration of a constituent in a physiological sample are provided. The blood sample is introduced into a test strip with portions of the blood sample being directed to both a first capillary and a second capillary. The first capillary configured to electrochemically determine a concentration of a first analyte in a blood sample by measuring a signal across a set of electrodes. The second capillary is configured to determine a hematocrit value of the blood sample by measuring a signal across a second set of electrodes.
Abstract:
A method and device for detection and quantification of biologically significant analytes in a liquid sample is described. The method includes contacting a volume of a liquid sample with predetermined amounts of at least a first and second redox reversible species having redox potentials differing by at least 50 millivolts. At least one of the redox reversible species comprises a liquid sample diffusible conjugate of a ligand analog of an analyte in the liquid sample and a redox reversible label. A predetermined amount of at least one specific binding partner for each analyte to be measured is combined with the sample and current flow is measured at first and second anodic and cathodic potentials and correlated with current flows for known concentrations of the respective diffusible redox reversible species. Diagnostic devices and kits, including such devices and the specified specific binding partner(s) and redox reversible species are also described.
Abstract:
A biosensor having a first conductive component is described, wherein the first conductive component includes at least one boundary formed by a first processing technique and at least one boundary formed by a second processing technique not the same as the first processing technique. The biosensor can also have a second conductive component including at least one boundary formed by the first processing technique and at least one boundary formed by a third processing technique not the same as the first processing technique. Further, the biosensor has a third conductive component including at least one boundary formed by the second processing technique and at least one boundary formed by the third processing technique not the same as the second processing technique.
Abstract:
The invention provides genes (DEA genes) that are differentially expressed in atherosclerotic lesions and polypeptides encoded by these genes. The invention provides compositions comprising a targeting agent conjugated to a functional moiety, wherein the targeting agent selectively binds to a polypeptide encoded by one a DEA gene. The functional moiety can be an imaging agent, therapeutic agent, etc. The invention further provides methods for providing diagnostic or prognostic information related to atherosclerosis involving detecting expression or activity of an expression product of one or more of the DEA genes. The invention further provides therapeutic methods comprising administering to a subject a composition comprising a targeting agent conjugated to a functional moiety that binds selectively binds to a polypeptide encoded by a DEA gene.
Abstract:
Novel bipyridyl-osmium complex conjugates and their use in electrochemical assays are described. The redox reversible-osmium complexes can be prepared to exhibit unique reversible redox potentials and can thus be used in combination with other electroactive redox reversible species having redox potentials differing by at least 50 millivolts in electrochemical assays designed for use of multiple electroactive species in the same cell and in the same sample without interference between the two or more redox coupled conjugate systems.
Abstract:
The present disclosure provides methods and compositions for the diagnosis and treatment of inflammation, in particular, vascular pathologies. One aspect provides an array capable of detecting the expression pregnancy specific glycoproteins in a non-pregnant patient. The array optionally detects at least a second biomarker for vascular pathology. Compositions and methods including modulators of pregnancy specific glycoproteins are also provided.
