The light source emits primary wavelength light that at least partially is converted in secondary wavelength light by the wavelength conversion medium. The periodic antenna array is positioned in close proximity to the wavelength conversion medium and functions to enhance the efficiency of the absorption and/or emission processes in the wavelength conversion medium through the coupling of the incident primary wavelength light or the emitted secondary light to surface lattice resonances that arise from the diffractive coupling of localized surface plasmon polaritons in the individual antennas of the array. This is especially advantageous for forming low étendue illumination device suitable for use in projection systems, or for controlling the directionality, the polarization, and/or the color of the secondary wavelength light.

Up conversion nano cerias are biocompatible as a biomarker with antioxidant properties. Up conversion nano cerias interact in a cell specific manner showing catalase mimetic activity. With suitable surface targeting ligands, up conversion nano cerias can be used for site selective drug delivery for the treatment of diseases like cancer.

There are provided a coating composition having excellent visible light transmittance and photoluminescence properties, and a wavelength converting thin film prepared by using the same. The coating composition according to the present invention includes a solvent, polysilazane, and a wavelength converting agent, and has visible light transmittance of 50% or more with respect to an aqueous solution. According to the present invention, a wavelength converting thin film having excellent visible light transmittance and photoluminescence properties can be prepared.

A powder including particles of an oxide of at least one rare earth element selected from Y, Sc or lanthanide elements and Zr oxide particles is prepared as a raw material powder, wherein in the particle size distribution of the rare earth element oxide particles, or in the particle size distribution of secondary particles in the case where the rare earth element oxide particles are agglomerated to form the secondary particles, the particle diameter D2.5 value at which the cumulative particle amount from the minimum particle size side is 2.5% based on the total particle amount is in the range from 180 nm to 2000 nm, inclusive. The raw material powder is press molded into a predetermined shape, followed by sintering.
