Abstract:
The thiol group-containing colored compound includes a chromophore having absorption in a visible light region, a thiol group, and a spacer provided between the chromophore and the thiol group. The spacer is a chain alkylene group having 2 to 30 carbon atoms, a cyclic alkylene group having 3 to 30 carbon atoms, or a derivative of either alkylene group in which the number of carbon atoms in an additional structure of the alkylene group is equal to or less than the number of carbon atoms in the alkylene group.
Abstract:
A photochromic article is provided, containing a polymer and a polyoxometalate derivative anion and counter cation complex distributed in the polymer. A method of forming a photochromic film is also provided, including forming a composition containing a polymer or a precursor of the polymer and a polyoxometalate derivative and counter cation complex and preparing a film from the composition, the film containing the polyoxometalate derivative and counter cation complex distributed in the polymer. Further, a precursor composition is provided, including a polymer or a precursor of the polymer and a polyoxometalate derivative anion and a counter cation.

Abstract:
The invention provides a voltage switchable nanoparticle-dye complex, obtainable by reacting at least ZnO nanoparticles, TiO2 nanoparticles and a bipyridine compound, wherein each pyridine ring bears at least one carboxyl or carboxaldehyde group, a composition for use in display and electronic paper technology equipment, comprising said voltage switchable nanoparticle-dye complex, a process for the manufacture of said nanoparticle-dye complex and a process for the manufacture of a display coated with nanoparticle-dye complex. The invention further provides a display panel comprising such nanoparticle-dye complex or composition.
Abstract:
We report the synthesis and characterization of four novel CCC—NHC pincer platinum(II) and palladium(II) complexes, which adopt a distorted square planar configuration. These complexes emit bright blue light in the solid state under UV irradiation with emissions that are stable in ambient atmosphere (O2 and H2O) for extended periods. We also report the synthesis and characterization of CCC—NHC pincer ligand nickel complexes, and solid state fluorescence spectra have been collected for two of the complexes reported. X-ray structural analysis of a representative compound exhibits a distorted square planar geometry. Finally, we report the synthesis and characterization of CCC—NHC pincer ligand complexes for abnormal carbens, triazole, and BIA.

Abstract:
There is provided an electroluminescent element using a material that is excellent in film forming properties and carrier transporting properties, emits a light in the solid state, and can be suitably used also as a host material. The electroluminescent element has an electroluminescence layer between a couple of electrodes, and a complex of a Group 4 metal of the periodic table, which is excellent in the film forming properties and the carrier transporting properties and capable of emitting a light in the solid state, is used in a part of the electroluminescence layer to form the electroluminescent element. The complex of a Group 4 metal of the periodic table has an emission wavelength on a longer wavelength side as compared with conventional host materials such as Alq3, and thereby may be combined with a red light emitting guest material to form a light emitting layer.
Abstract:
Disclosed is an opto-electroactive device comprising a metallocene of the formula wherein M is zirconium or hafnium; X is halogen and R1–R5 are each independently hydrogen, aryl, alkyl, halogen or —Si(R6)3; or wherein at least two adjacent R substituents on at least one ring are joined to form a fused ring, which may be unsubstituted or substituted with aryl, alkyl, halogen or —Si(R6)3; or wherein the R1 substituents on each ring are joined to link the rings in an ansa bridge, and wherein R6 is an alkyl group, a substituted alkyl group, an aryl group or a substituted aryl group. Also disclosed is a method for making an opto-electroactive device comprising a metallocene.
