Abstract:
A photoactivatable reagent useful as a chain transfer reagent for providing a semitelechelic polymer having one or more terminal photoactivatable groups. The reagent provides one or more photoactivatable groups and one or more sulfhydryl (or other chain transfer) groups, the photoactivatable and chain transfer groups optionally being joined together by a spacer group. The reagent can be used to prepare a polymer by serving to initiate the polymerization of ethylenically unsaturated monomers. The reagent itself becomes an integral part of the resultant polymer, thereby providing the polymer with a terminal photoactivatable nature. The method provides a number of benefits, including the ability to provide homogeneous photoactivatable polymer compositions, e.g., in terms of the uniform location of the photogroup(s) on the terminal portion of each polymer molecule and the ability to build a desired nonpolar quality, and in turn improved surfactancy, into otherwise polar polymers.
Abstract:
A resin article comprising a shaped body of a synthetic resin having a surface, and a coated resin layer covering the surface of the shaped body, said coated resin layer being made of an amino group-containing polymer and/or a polymer containing (meth) acrylate of (iso)cyanuric acid as a constituent unit and having a top surface, wherein the top surface of the coated resin layer is chemically converted to have an anti-static property by chemical reaction with a quaternary compound-forming reagent. Alternatively, a resin article having stable anti-static properties may comprise a shaped body of a synthetic resin covered with an anti-static coating layer made of a reaction product of at least one of an amino group-containing alkoxy silane, an amino group-containing alkoxy titanium compund, or an oligomer thereof, with a quaternary compound-forming reagent.
Abstract:
Provided herein is a coated resin molded-article which comprises a polyester resin substrate and a cured coating formed thereon which contains a curable phosphazene compound. The molded article will find use as film, sheet, and container which have improved abrasion resistance, weather resistance, heat resistance, heat shock resistance, hot water resistance, moisture resistance, alkali resistance, impact resistance, cloud resistance, transparency, oil resistance, surface gloss, and air barrier properties, while keeping the good properties of the resin.
Abstract:
A photochromic article is provided, containing a polymer and a polyoxometalate derivative anion and counter cation complex distributed in the polymer. A method of forming a photochromic film is also provided, including forming a composition containing a polymer or a precursor of the polymer and a polyoxometalate derivative and counter cation complex and preparing a film from the composition, the film containing the polyoxometalate derivative and counter cation complex distributed in the polymer. Further, a precursor composition is provided, including a polymer or a precursor of the polymer and a polyoxometalate derivative anion and a counter cation.

Abstract:
Products which are phosphorus containing oligomers having ##EQU1## linkages between phosphorus atoms and which are obtained by the self-condensation of .beta.-haloalkyl esters of pentavalent phosphorus acids or by condensation of these esters with an alkyl ester of a pentavalent phosphorus acid are treated after residual acidity has been neutralized with an alkylene oxide for a period of time which is sufficient to enable the alkylene oxide to act upon labile groups contained in the condensed product, i.e., cyclic, pyro and bridged groups, and to neutralize any further acidity generated by the opening of such groups. The stabilized products formed by this process when incorporated in a polyurethane foam formulation produce a foam having superior green strength to a foam containing such products which have not been treated in accordance with this invention.
