Abstract: Techniques for energy-efficient device discovery are described. In one embodiment, for example, user equipment may comprise logic, at least a portion of which is in hardware, the logic to initiate a synchronous operation mode, determine to announce one or more characteristics of a discovery zone of a wireless channel, and send a discovery announcement signal over the wireless channel, the discovery announcement signal describing the one or more characteristics of the discovery zone. Other embodiments are described and claimed.

Abstract: A user equipment (UE) enables synchronous peer-to-peer communication between devices for out of network coverage and partial network coverage scenarios. The UE performs a synchronization procedure and selects a spectrum resource within an uplink (UL) spectrum for device-to-device (D2D) communication. The UE, representing a synchronization source, generates timing information and synchronization signals for synchronizing a group of wireless communication devices (peer UEs) with the UE in a local synchronization area. The UE transmits, in selected or pre-allocated time or frequency resources, a synchronization signal including the timing information in order to synchronize devices in the local synchronization area.

Abstract: A wireless communication device is configured to perform resource allocation of device-to-device (D2D) communication in a UE. Synchronization establishing circuitry is provided to acquire radio resource synchronization and to establish a time-frequency resource grid having resource units allocation to a D2D communication. Signal metric evaluation circuitry is provided to evaluate resource unit(s) of a received signal using a signal metric when the time-frequency resource grid has been established. Radio resource selection circuitry is provided to select a time resource of the time-frequency resource grid for allocation to a D2D communication depending upon a result of the resource unit evaluation. Other embodiments may be described and claimed.

Abstract: Embodiments of an enhanced node B (eNB), user equipment (UE) and methods of signaling for proximity services and device-to-device (D2D) discovery in an LTE network are generally described herein. In some embodiments, the eNB may support inter-cell device-to-device (D2D) discovery by transmitting signaling, to a first user equipment (UE), to indicate configuration information for a D2D discovery resource pool including D2D resources configured by one or more neighboring cells. The configuration information includes timing offsets between a serving cell of the first UE and the one or more neighboring cells. Other apparatuses and methods are also described.

Abstract: Embodiments of an enhanced node B (eNB), user equipment (UE) and methods of signaling for proximity services and device-to-device (D2D) discovery in an LTE network are generally described herein. In some embodiments, the eNB may transmit signaling to indicate D2D discovery zone configuration to proximity service (ProSe) enabled UEs. The signaling may indicate time and frequency resources and a periodicity of a discovery zone and may indicate operational parameters for the discovery zone. The resources of the D2D discovery zone may be allocated for D2D discovery signal transmission by the ProSe-enabled UEs.

Abstract: Novel adaptive silencing schemes for device-to-device (D2D) discovery based on loading conditions in a discovery zone are disclosed herein. These adaptive silencing schemes can be used to mitigate interference and data collisions in networks where D2D connections can be formed. In some embodiments, a silencing factor is used to probabilistically determine whether a user equipment (UE) will transmit one or more D2D discovery signals in the discovery zone. Loading conditions in a current discovery zone can be estimated using several different approaches and metrics described herein. The silencing factor can be increased or decreased for a subsequent discovery zone based on the values of one or more of the metrics described herein for the current discovery zone.

Abstract: A wireless communication device is configured to perform synchronization of device-to-device (D2D) communication. Device-to-device communication circuitry in the wireless communication device searches for a synchronization signal and determines if a received synchronization signal satisfies a signal metric. A synchronization signal for D2D communication is broadcast depending upon a result of the search. Radio resource information circuitry is configured to broadcast information about D2D radio resources. Other embodiments may be described and claimed.

Abstract: Embodiments of a User Equipment (UE) and methods of communication are generally described herein. If the UE is configured by higher layers to transmit, in a set of symbols of a slot, a sounding reference signal (SRS), a physical uplink control channel (PUCCH), a physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH), or a physical random access channel (PRACH); and if a downlink control information (DCI) format indicates that the UE is to receive, in a subset of the set of symbols of the slot, channel state information reference signals (CSI-RS) or a physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH): the UE may: cancel transmission of the PUCCH, the PUSCH, or the PRACH in remaining symbols from the set of symbols; and may cancel transmission of the SRS in remaining symbols from the subset of symbols.

Abstract: Described is an apparatus of a User Equipment (UE). The apparatus may comprise a first circuitry, a second circuitry, and a third circuitry. The first circuitry may be operable to process one or more configuration transmissions from the gNB carrying a rule for Uplink (UL) collisions and process a first Downlink (DL) transmission and a second DL transmission. The second circuitry may be operable to identify a first UL transmission for the first DL transmission and a second UL transmission for the second DL transmission, the first UL transmission overlapping with the second UL transmission in at least one Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) symbol. The third circuitry may be operable to generate at least one of the first UL transmission and the second UL transmission in accordance with the rule for UL collisions.
