Abstract: A copper foil, intended for use as a current collector in a lithium-containing electrode for a lithium-based electrochemical cell, is subjected to a series of chemical oxidation and reduction processing steps to form a field of integral copper wires extending outwardly from the surfaces of the current collector (and from the copper content of the foil) to be coated with a resin-bonded porous layer of particles of active electrode material. The copper wires serve to anchor thicker layers of porous electrode material and enhance liquid electrolyte contact with the electrode particles and the current collector to improve the energy output of the cell and its useful life.

Abstract: The invention relates to a wet-chemical pretreatment of zinc surfaces prior to applying a corrosion-protection coating, which deposits a thin inorganic coating of oxide and/or metallic iron. An iron layer structure which is applied according to the invention, hereinafter referred to as ferrization, improves the achievable corrosion protection of wet-chemical conversion coatings on zinc surfaces. Furthermore, the ferrization process causes both a reduction of the contact corrosion of joined metal components which have zinc and iron surfaces as well as a reduction of corrosive coating migration on cut edges of galvanized steel strips with coating layer structures. In particular, the invention relates to an alkaline composition containing an iron ion source, a reducing agent based on oxoacids of nitrogen and phosphorus, and water-soluble organic carboxylic acids with an amino group at the α, β, or γ position with respect to the acid group and/or the water-soluble salts thereof.

Abstract: A production method of a member having a surface provided thereon with a chemical conversion coating includes a contacting step and a washing step. The contacting step causes a reactive-type chemical conversion treating acidic composition to contact with a base material having a metal-based surface thereby forming a chemical conversion coating on the metal-based surface of the base material. The washing step washes the base material having been subjected to the contacting step to obtain a member having a surface provided thereon with the chemical conversion coating. The reactive-type chemical conversion treating acidic composition contains a water-soluble trivalent chromium-containing substance, a water-soluble titanium-containing substance, and a carboxylic acid compound.
