Abstract:
A double-belt system for processing viscous melts includes a driven upper belt having a lower working run, and a driven lower belt having an upper working run spaced beneath the lower working run to form a gap therewith for receiving a viscous melt. A gap-adjusting mechanism includes upper rollers engaging an upper surface of the lower working run, and lower rollers engaging a lower surface of the upper working run. A distance between the upper rollers and lower rollers is adjustable to vary a size of the gap. A compensation mechanism is disposed over the lower working run to apply an upward force thereto for pulling the lower working run against the upper rollers, thereby resisting sagging of the lower working run. At least one delivery mechanism applies a temperature-controlled liquid across an entire width of the lower working run for controlling a temperature thereof. The liquid is extracted by an extraction mechanism disposed downstream of the delivery mechanism. Vertically adjustable stops are provided for determining a vertical position of respective ones of the upper rollers.
Abstract:
A composite storage tank is built which has double wall characteristics. A method of building the tank comprises the steps of applying a viscous resinous core material to a support surface and then winding onto, into or along with the viscous resinous core material discrete filament bundles. The resinous core material encapsulates the filament bundles, but does not significantly penetrate into an interior of the bundles. The substantially resin-free interiors provide flow paths for the ready detection of wall leakage. The resultant composite storage tank has double wall characteristics. A crack or hole in either an inside or outside surface which extends at least to the encapsulated filament bundle interiors will alert the tank's operator/owner to a leakage problem.
Abstract:
The invention is directed to an apparatus for the production of polyurethane moldings endless in one dimension using at least two alternately operated mixheads for the reactive polyurethane components. Material which has been correctly conditioned by circulation of the reactive components through the mixhead not in operation arrives at that mixhead at least before it is put into operation and the components are delivered by units which are common to the mixheads, but independent of one another in regard to "mixing" and "conditioning".
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a device for the continuous manufacture of slabstock polyurethane foam including a conveyor means (1), a mixing head (51) and means (6) for discharging the reaction mixture from the mixing head (51) onto the conveyor means (1). The device further includes a start board (7), a stop board, means for moving the start board (7) along the conveyor means at the beginning of a production run in such a manner that it obstructs the moving reaction mixture to thereby increase the height of the first portion of the produced foam, and means for moving the stop board at the end of a production run in such a manner that it pushes the foaming reaction mixture ahead to thereby increase the height of the end portion. In this way, no operator has to enter the foaming machine and the start and end profiles of the foam blocks are optimised.
Abstract:
A process for continuously and stably preparing an acrylic polymer of a high quality in a high conversion and a high productivity which comprises continuously feeding a synthetic resin film onto a moving support, continuously feeding a monomer or a monomer solution onto the synthetic resin film on the moving support in the form of a thin layer, irradiating a light energy to the thin layer, continuously feeding another synthetic resin film over the thin layer and bringing it into close contact with the thin layer when the thin layer has become substantially nonflowable state, and continuing the irradiation of light energy to produce the polymer.
Abstract:
A synthetic resin molded article having good antistatic properties is disclosed, which is composed of a body of a synthetic resin (B) having a surface layer which is predominantly comprised of an antistatic polymer (A) and is integral with the body (B). The antistatic polymer (A) mainly composed of units of a quaternary ammonium base monomer of the formula: ##STR1##wherein R.sub.1 is H or methyl, R.sub.2 through R.sub.4 are H, unsubstituted or substituted (C.sub.1-9) alkyl, m is 1-10 and X.sup.- is an anion of a quaternizing agent. The molded article is made by forming a film of the antistatic polymer (A) on the molding surface of a casting mold, casting a polymerizable material to be formed into the synthetic resin (B) as the base material in the casting mold, and polymerizing the polymerizable material to form a body of the synthetic resin (B), simultaneously rendering the film of the polymer (A) integral with the body of the base material.
Abstract:
Synthetic resin plates having an irregular flow pattern of different colors are prepared by continuously polymerizing polymerizable materials in a polymerization zone defined by confronting surfaces of two confronting and running endless belts and gaskets held between the confronting surfaces of the belts. Polymerizable materials of different colors are supplied in the polymerizable material supply region close to the upstream end of the polymerization zone by a plurality of supply means, each of which includes at least one polymerizable material supply opening to the polymerizable material supply region. The supply means are arranged in such a manner that they are spaced from one another in the direction of travel of the belts. The supply of the polymerizable material is carried out while at least one of the supply means is reciprocated in the width direction of the belts, and the colors of the colored polymerizable materials supplied from at least two of the supply means are made different from each other or the colored polymerizable material supplied from at least one of the supply means is formed into a laminar flow composed of a plurality of polymerizable materials differing in color.
